You must either be rather young or rather old…
It does not appear that the original video is still around, but there are a few “updated” versions of it that you can still find.

As for the Cold, a realitve offered to get me some electric socks for Christmas. Any recommendations from folks that have tried these? Thanks.

I suggest heated insoles versus socks. Less bulky.
These have gotten some great reviews:
https://anseris.com/products/anseris-torch-electrek-heated-insolesI personally, am waiting on them to go on sale before I buy. In the meantime, I have been using chem warmers for years and they work pretty well, they just create a lot of waste.

Was this paving work ever completed?
Yes. It is nice and smooth now.

Yes, Lake Fairfax Park has nice looking camping. If mountain biking or using a gravel bike, it’s doable via access near the Fairfax Ice Rink off the W&OD. (Also accessible from Great Falls, VA–trails from Leigh Mill Road–but you’d have to be comfortable biking the roads out to there.)
Just an FYI… The bathrooms at the main camping area have been closed/locked every time that I have been out there. The port-o-pots by the skate park were absolutely disgusting the last time I checked those (a little over a week ago). The bathrooms by the big pavilion in the main park area have been open during the day, but unsure of whether they are open at night.
I am not sure what the deal is, but if you are tent camping, it might be wise to know the bathroom situation beforehand.

Hope to see a few forum folks at the GRUSK this coming weekend. Bought a pair of WTB Resolutes (700C x 42) for the ride. I had to switch my registration to the Tall (1-day) but am excited to ride the new course!
Heading out to WV in a few hours to start the Venti tomorrow morning. See you at the finish!

Headphones/earbuds are the main issue with this.
I disagree. The main issue is people that are lost in their own little world where only they exist, therefore they make unpredictable moves without looking to see if their actions will affect anyone around them.
I have seen so many people in the past few months do this who are not even wearing earbuds/headphones. No amount of ringing bells or screaming “onyerleft” will knock them back into the real world.

Oh yay!!! I completely forgot about this. And yes, the weather is finally starting to warm up, so an outdoor happy hour would be lovely!

Sunyata – no basil memories in stock (at least not last night or not with the other baskets). They’re getting in the Banjo Bros grocery panniers so I can see them in person.
Bummer, they used to have them. You are more than welcome to try mine out to see how they work for what you want.

New grocery-getter/townie bike. I’ve got a rack on the back and I’m thinking of putting grocery panniers on it. SteveO recommended Arkel’s and then Banjo Brothers has some that are significantly cheaper. My issue is that my canvas grocery tote bags are wider/longer than standard grocery bags so I’m not sure how easy it will be to drop my canvas bag into the pannier. I kinda want to quickly plop my reusable canvas bags onto the bike/into a basket/pannier/whatever and then pedal off. I don’t want to have to fight with fasteners or roll tops or flaps or wedging my too-big bags into panniers. It’s a half mile to the store, it’s not like it needs to be secure and waterproof.
May try the folding Ward side basket panniers instead – anyone have them? If so, do they rattle? Can I put them them on and take them off pretty easily like with a standard pannier?
A Surly 24-pack front rack is going on tomorrow and then I have to figure out what I’m doing with it. I’ll probably just zip tie a milk crate to it initially.
Open to recommendations for sure.
I have Basil rear baskets for grocery getting. I love them and my canvas bags fit with minimal readjusting (they are about twice the size of regular paper grocery bags). Bonus: Bikenetic carries them.

ParticipantUnless it is frozen, most of that part of the CCT will not be rideable until late March. Freeze/Thaw plus water retention makes it a slop fest.

I didn’t search back through the thread, but is there a Wandrer related prize. Someone who rides the most new-to-them miles during the competition.
Search for ‘wandrer.earth strava’ to understand what it is if you don’t know.
Thanks, Bilsko… I just went down a rabbit hole. 😎

Registration is open for 2021! Main races & rides are Saturday, July 10, with longer rides starting on Thursday and Friday.
I did the 2-day GRUSK Grande in 2019, taking advantage of the gear shuttle, and had a great time — a challenging diversity of terrain and fun crowd. Supposedly the organizers have worked to put more on gravel and less on pavement for the new routes. This year I am tempted to do the new 213-mile ride over three days.
Route and registration info here: https://www.bikereg.com/48638. Discounted registration ends next Friday.
Here’s hoping this summer’s events can go on.
I signed up for the Venti. The plan at the moment is to enjoy the scenery and take 2.5 days. Sign up and ride with me!
