Star Trek II was Wrath of Khan, so I am not sure if Klingon Bastards was said in it, but it was chocked full of wonderful over acting. The first Star Trek movie was also not great. Star Trek III was also pretty bad with Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon.
As in… “YOU…Klingon son! You killed my bastard!!!” ?

Participantbobco85: Bravo!
I do agree, riding in Tysons (123 or 7) is not for the faint of heart. But they only just got actual sidewalks recently! An opportunity for those who live there to influence their leaders?

Participant…and I am hoping the Episcopal Church will consider *justice* more important than “protecting its image (& one of its own)”.

The Starduster name and the gold star are also part of a fully formed graphic identity for a race team that… well… may yet see the light of day.

ParticipantHi Arlingtonrider!
Great info, merci. I’ve been sufficiently far away from serious riding that I didn’t know about this tradition. Too late today, but…
My wife and I will still be out & about this afternoon in south Arlington. She has rediscovered her inner http://bikeyface.com/, thanks to her new Breezer Uptown EX-LS, now named *Snowflake*. Hains point will come soon, once I resolve a minor transport issue- Snowflake does not have a top tube, and that doesn’t play well with the traditional trunk mounted bike carriers. The crew at Papillon Cycles say they have a solution…

ParticipantChristmas has arrived. My wife now has a Breezer Uptown EX-LS, fresh from Papillon Cycles. Just the type of bike she wanted all along. The old bike just didn’t have that personality. *It* (the Schwinn Essence in the second photo) is now with Larry Behery @ The Old Bike Shop, probably already on the sales floor.
Now, my original intent was one with a dynohub. That didn’t happen, but I have a Euro lighting solution soon. After I’ve run my mouth for so long, I *should* practice what I preach, non?

ParticipantI rode through there last week- the lights under the GW parkway were out, under the railroad and Rt 1 were lit. Don’t remember the rest… it *was* last week…

ParticipantGee, hasn’t he made an effort to get her on the bike, even in a casual manner?
She needs to be encouraged to find her inner Bikeyface.

ParticipantThe Doctors Run Connector is open for business again, finally.

This is still a somewhat steep climb/descent, but tamer and safer than it was before. When I climbed it the first time, I was in my 38×24 gear, instead of the intended 38×32. I *was* able to get on up without stalling or falling over, which I could not have done on the old configuration. Thank you Arlington.
The lights are specific to the pathway up to the basement door of Peyton Randolph Elementary. My understanding is that they will be on only for school hours. They certainly were not in service this evening at 7pm.

I just got a B&M Lumotec Fly IQ premium light for my bike. It has crazy LED daytime running lights. I have another bike with a modern sidewall generator. It works fine but makes noise and has a little more drag than the dynohub. I can’t imagine listening to the whine of the sidewall generator all of the time. I don’t hear it when it’s raining or in traffic, I guess.
BTW.. I got the sanyo dyno mounted to a low-end-ish wheel for $25 on Ebay plus shipping. Lucky low bid, I guess. You can get new 700c with generic dynohub for for $99 shipped on Ebay, too.
Oh by the way, Green Lizard (Herndon) and Bikes@Vienna are both Peter White Cycles dealers for lights, generators, dynos and the like.
Welcome to the Euro light world. If you haven’t tried the light yet, here is what your nocturnal ride will look like:

I just finished decorating the bike for the ride tonight. I am so lit! :p.
Oh? Was that you I came across at Shirlington Rd and the trail, around 5:30ish?

ParticipantMy B+M setup is powered by a modern sidepull dynamo (would’ve loved a dynohub, but $300 for a built-up wheel…). Ok, it costs me a gear or two of speed, but works very effectively, without the low-speed flicker that comes with the dynohubs. I’ve had occasions to run lights up during daylight- be it the Arlington Fun Ride or my rides for Papillon, the trails can get very crowded with bike AND pedestrian traffic. Every bit of visibility helps, here and on the street.
All of this is why my wife’s next bike (a Breezer Uptown 8 LS) *will* have a dynohub.

ParticipantGuess who I saw this past morning, around 10am or so? Grant (a.k.a. Mr. Dasgeh?) on the Bakfiets, turning left to go south on George Mason Drive, on the bridge over Route 50. Looking very aero with the canopy over the cargo area.

Lots of people like to compare DC to Paris because of the height limit – maybe we can aspire for this similarity as well.
DC is like Paris in multiple ways. The street layout was by Pierre L’Enfant, on the Parisian model. Broad, wide avenues, circles, *not* on a rectangular grid- all very Paris, non? You’ve noticed many modern cities are defined by the cathedral of skyscrapers at their center? Our DC and Paris are the exceptions. And the height limit of course- that way the Washington Monument and the Captitol dome are not overwhelmed by skyscrapers (thinking of Independence Square in Philly). And like Paris, despite our traffic and political bombast, this town is beautiful at night. I dedicated a Monuments at Night ride to that this past summer.
Our Congress… would call the Paris mayor’s proposal “Un-American”. Congress has been too thoroughly *purchased* by the status quo- big oil and coal.
