Good afternoon. Photos from my own ride on the W&OD around 1:00 PM: Every wood surface bridge from the Pike to the Bluemont Connector was this icy. There however was good news- crews are repairing the foundation of one of the washed out bridges on the Four Mile Run Trail at Glencarlyn Park. First step to replacement.

Bridge repair work at Glencarlyn Park reminded me of the other flood-related trail repair in progress along Dora Kelly Nature Park and the Holmes Run Trail in Alexandria. That work will not be complete until late 2023: https://www.alexandriava.gov/tes/info/default.aspx?id=113304

I remember back when riding on the Parkway itself (at least south of Old Town) was legal. I believe there were any number of weekend group rides along that stretch.
The road would be a far, far superior, and almost certainly safer, place to ride than the trail.

It would be, *except*… for the current volume of high speed traffic running well over the posted speed limit, and no shoulder, paved or otherwise, anywhere. So right now, trading one set of hazards for another. Even for the fit, fast, and fearless.

Now if someone will do a Critical Mass ride, I’m in.

This actually belongs in October. Still…

This is a travel advisory for S. George Mason Drive, *northbound* from Four Mile Run Drive to Columbia Pike. This stretch is known for all the work & food trucks parked along the right (where else are residents of the apartment complexes going to park their work vehicles?). I have ridden this route over decades as a quick way home from the W&OD, well aware of the hazards of closing car traffic side by side, but something ominous is occurring. Many of those work trucks and cars have sustained *recent* damage, ranging from smashed side mirrors to severe sideswipe damage, getting worse with each recent ride.

So, extra vigilance is advised. Be safe out there.

A couple of weeks ago, I rode with #accordioneur on an Arlington 55 + Ride, from Belle Haven to Mt. Vernon. I will testify that stretch has become worse since I last ran it 2 years ago. *Many* root heaves and pavement fall-outs disguised by fallen leaves. No one crashed, I didn’t go down, but still. The need is…obvious. Let me make sure I can commit this weekend… merci!

There is already an informally named *Cathedral of Saint Pete Beers*, on Loudon County gravel, of course. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cathedral%20of%20Saint%20Pete%20Beers/106008924687746/

I am simply going to call it the *Pete Beers Memorial Bridge*, and let our common usage influence the powers that be. (Surreptitious application of weatherproof Hello Kitty stickers? The Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. ;) )

Funny you should mention Rt 110. I have been trying on figuring out where 110 ends and Rt 1 begins as the speed limit changes from 45 to 35 (Arlington Code). Right now the first 35 mph sign is just north of 18th St, about 1/4 of the way down Rt 1.

They are looking for the info to locate that point. Too much fun.

I want to say at the clover leaf where northbound Rt 1 bears right to cross the 14th St Bridge (just north of the 12th St underpass), and Rt 110 picks it up northbound from there.

Steve O, I am interested, but still need to sell Sue on the idea (she would be coming by other modes).

I did not know this. I ride on it all the time. Is there signage?

As do I. I do not remember *any* “no bike” signage.
