2/18 – Electrical Nikolai Tesla/Thomas Edison Contraption

I’m doing awful at this game. First I didn’t get the pic of the bird feeder in my own back yard soon enough and tonight I missed the Electric Car by a few minutes (I think) and uploaded even later. But it’s a fun one to know about at Audi Stadium. The lit sign in front of it that is illegible with the IPhone says something like “100% Electric”.

I also missed Planets for today when I #LondonBridge (d) at the Air & Space museum and it was so dark there and under construction anyway. Maybe later!

Hello Everyone! I’m your team captain, Adriana!

This is my 4th year playing Freezing Saddles, I’m originally from Oklahoma, but I’ve been in DC for several years now! I live in NoMa with my Canadian husband and my cat and am really excited to be riding with you all this year! I know this will be my winning team!

The incentive this year isn’t so much to ride high mileage, but to ride consistently daily. The first mile is worth 10 points and each mile thereafter is worth one less point until the 10th and subsequent miles, which are all worth only one point. Plus each ride day is worth 10 points. So a single 10 mile ride is worth 55 points + 10 points for the ride day = 65 points. If someone does two 10 mile rides on two different days, that’s worth 130 points. Compare that to someone who rides a single 20 miles ride on one day = 55 points for the first 10 miles + 10 points for the next 10 miles + 10 points for the ride day = 75 points. For that person to get the same amount of points in a single day, they’d have to ride 75 miles! So getting people to ride consistently (even if only a few miles each day) is a BIG DEAL and the way to rack up points.

Here’s what you need to do to get started:

    1. Join our strava team -https://www.strava.com/clubs/809134
    2. Post on this forum introducing yourself and letting us know how you like to be communicated with. We could do emails or a group text this year.
    3. Ride every day & have fun!

In your example you’d have to ride 55 miles more some day to make up missing that one day – is my maths – are my maths – correct? I wish my team was a little more consistent. I’m afraid to look at the team leaderboard.

Tell Will that clockwise circles mess up your vestibular system for life. 😂

I don’t know if this 100% counts, but the instructions don’t say the found word can’t be in another word and when I looked it up on Google the photo had it as a separate word. Maybe the Google photo was inside. The word is Easter *♂️The first pic is live. The second is copied from Google Maps.

    P.S.

I don’t know why the controls on the forum posts often just don’t work – like the management of photos. Sometimes it works flawlessly (well, not flawlessly because the upload seems to work just by checking the photo boxes in your added photos – no dragging or pushing “Go” necessary. But other times all manner of hitting buttons does nothing and I end up wasting half an hour or more. I’ve had these problems with the forum for years. I rate the thread “poor” for that reason, not the thread idea – that’s excellent – but the forum controls being all wanky. Facebook is 1000% easier to post. Maybe we need ads on the forum to get some revenue. And now I see that in my second picture the word is almost illegible, while it was fine when I uploaded it.

Since we seem to have settled that the leaderboard is correct, I am ready to award the FS2020 Loopy for Arlington Prizes.

A total of 396 Arlington Loops were completed by 68 Freezing Saddles participants this year, 176 clockwise by 53 riders, and 220 counterclockwise by 44 riders.

For keeping the best balance in life during Freezing Saddles, the prize for Most Matching Loops goes to:

For keeping herself totally wound up during Freezing Saddles, the prize for Most Counterclockwise Loops goes to:

And, by judges decision (and because nobody needs 2 boxes of Froot Loops), for the guy who likes to unwind, the prize for Most Clockwise Loops goes to:

Congratulation to all the winners! PM me to arrange a meet-up if you are running low on cereal. Otherwise, I will present your awards when we eventually have the closing Happy Hour.

    No names here.

    2/13 – Diner

This is on 18th ST NW near Euclid in Columbia Heights. Bike in photo in the wee hours of the morn.

Usually, I can’t afford restaurants but every so often and now that I have a little Covid $$$ it’s all Covidy out there. But diners can be nice.

Bentley’s Falls Church Diner. I think they’re closed and have actually changed hands but the sign is still up near the street. Hard to see the bike but it’s there.

Someone started calling out a 2nd floor window to invite me upstairs so I didn’t take long to snap a photo and quickly move along.

Somewhere along the main drag at a bus stop in Crystal City

Grrr finally got these to upload at 5 am. What’s the deal? They will not drag to the attachment space. Finally got them to insert even though I kept getting irritating messages to drag them. Not even sure how I finally did it. Is my membership on some weird, complicated setting again?

Is this where I ask questions about 2021’s Loopy for a Arlington Pointless Prize? I’m not finding a specific thread for some reason. Probably I’m just not looking in the right place. I found 2020 . . .

Okay, I’m there, but neither by choice or late registration. I was hoping the link would provide info on what team I’m on. No one has attempted to contact me. Maybe I can just go down through the teams and search?

They are listed at https://freezingsaddles.org/people/friends. (People who haven’t joined their team’s Strava club are also there right now, but will move off as they join their clubs.) However, their points are not displayed until and unless they are assigned to a team.

Hmmm, nobody contacting me, but I’ll give this link a try!
