    2/11/23 Kids on Bikes

Along Metropolitan Branch Trail. Could be a kid. I saw one on Kalarama, but on closer inspection it might have been, uh, older.

Wild Card! Show us a photo memorializing something that happened on February 10 in history.

On February 10, 1966, Ralph Nader, a young lawyer and the author of the groundbreaking book “Unsafe at Any Speed: The Designed-In Dangers of the American Automobile,” testifies before Congress for the first time about unsafe practices in the auto industry.

By the mid-1960s, U.S. automakers were still largely unregulated. Nader’s book, which was published in November 1965, accused car companies of designing vehicles with an emphasis on style and power at the expense of consumer safety. One chapter of “Unsafe at Any Speed” focused on handling problems with the Chevrolet Corvair, a car produced by auto giant General Motors (GM). Shortly after Nader’s congressional testimony, the news media reported that Nader had been followed by detectives. It was later determined that starting in early February 1966, GM sent investigators to spy on Nader and look into his personal life in an effort to discredit him. Nader sued GM for harassment and invasion of privacy and won a settlement. The publicity surrounding GM’s actions helped make “Unsafe at Any Speed” a best-seller and turn Ralph Nader into a household name.

The internet wasn’t in full agreement on which day was Barbie day but you all celebrated well :)

I think this was a ski and hot tub theme, Boomer! I have a friend who regularly documents their antics.

Indiana – I just got back from the Orthopaedic office and no fractures were found ❤️. I’m just pretty banged up – ribs front and back, probably a groin pull (ouch), bruises on my knee and shoulder through many layers, and a smooshed helmet. Everyone should always wear a damn helmet. You can really get hurt even at slow speeds with all the crap out there. I’ve been okayed to continue knee PT as tolerated and continue to take it very easy until I heal.

One of our teams lost a member who was hit by a car 😡 so I’ll probably be joining to sleaze my way through. Please keep me honest to recovery. I didn’t initially join a team this year because I always overdo it with the night riding. But maybe this sleaze pattern will mostly hold.

2/9/23 Thursday – February 9, 1997, “The Simpsons” replaced “The Flinstones” as the longest-running prime-time animated series.

Fox cartoon series “The Simpsons” airs 167th episode; longest-running animated series in cartoon history.

*My photo is of 167 V ST, NE, Washington, DC, celebrating the day of the Victory of the Simpson’s writers and cartoonists over the former longest running series, The Flintstones. Whoo hoo!

    2/5/23 Apolo 14, late submission

I was going to just take a photo of the moon, but Zeus was playing golf with it. Decided to do the Moondog sculpture – National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. When I got there the moon came out – eye roll. See photos on my painful ride (actually not that bad. Trying to turn over in bed and get on the bike is hideous though!). Still not sure exactly what’s going on, but I haven’t been taking cardio aspirin or diphenhydramine to sleep in case of TBI. The short, easy ride felt nice.

Sorry for the extemporaneous post – this isn’t an actual submission – but did anyone check this out? It seems to be “closed”. Is it a tree or what??

It says, “Apollo14 Moon Tree, temporarily closed. 10100 Laureate Way, Bethesda, MD 20814“

    Barbie day doll birthday 2/4/23

Not sure which of these it’s supposed to be, but this fascinated me. It’s a HUGE keychain, I assume for a LITTLE kid. Shopping was rough. Leaned on the cart like a 99 year old. Had trouble getting out of the garage.

    Feed The Birds 2/3/23

    901 NY Ave NW

Feed the imprisoned zoo birds? Yardbird . . .

At least I remembered the task after my London Bridge and a little short-term amnesia. Nice dent in the helmet and sore hip/shoulder. Decided to head home and recover before considering the 10 miles.

Somebody check on me tomorrow. .
