ParticipantYou: the innocent salesman and mechanics at Cycle 20 in Baltimore.
Me: idiot who brought his two tired kids in the store with him after dinner and a day of play. You may have mistaken them for rabid monkeys, but I assure you they were just tired kids who behaved at dinner and were done with all of that. But thanks for talking about that Tricross with me above the din.

okay tried that. First thing I learned is that I need to bike more, and be a bit a more sensible in my eating than I have been lately.
Second thing – bike is about 35 or 36 pounds (including small pouch, bell, and mirror, but without water bottle) Could that be right?
Sure, sounds right. My hybrid is 31 lbs. Next time you’re pedaling your tank up a hill, just think how fast and strong you’ll feel when you’re on a 20 pound road bike sometime in the future.

ParticipantIt seems to be hard to find weights online consistently. Companies don’t want to post them because so many things can affect the weight of a particular bike. Just stand on a bathroom scale holding your bike, and then again without it.
But bikepedia is the best source for other info.

ParticipantAs a flat bar rider I concur with everyone’s opinion on getting something with drops for the next bike. My imaginary next bike will be a cx.

ParticipantRight off the W&OD around Herndon?

ParticipantTrips are just under 7400 with one week left to go, which means 10K is still achievable. They need 600 rides over the weekend, and 400 per day on the weekdays, which is about what they’ve been doing the past two work weeks (weekends would need a big bump though).

ParticipantI’d like to do it, but the most I’ve ever ridden on my hybrid is 45 miles. So, is it doable on a 32 pound, flat bar bike?

If it doesn’t take you down, it generally ends up behind you, yes?
Yes.

I want to carry one of those Dog the Bounty Hunter mace paintball guns. I’d mace the shit out of their car and watch the A/C suck it in. Or day-dream about how when they get out of their car, they get it all over their hands, then rub their eyes and start to scream.
Or just a handlebar bag full of eggs. The same eggs, all summer long. How’s your throwing arm from the saddle?

The tube was 700 x 23-25 and the tire was 700 x 28 1/2. I thought it would be adequate to get him to the bike shop at least, but he didn’t want to chance it.

They’re very stretchy. It should have worked, at least as a temp.

Do you know if the tube didn’t fit? Tubes are supposedly quite flexible in terms of what tires/wheels they will actually fit.
When I changed out my 700c, 12 year old tires I found a 27″ tube that had been rolling fine for at least 6 years.

ParticipantI guess I’m way past due for some hurt. I haven’t fallen on a bike since I was 16 — foot stuck in the toe clips at a red light.
