ParticipantCabinets and furniture? Sure! With enough bungie cords and old tubes, you can carry anything! It’s like the family station wagon.

ParticipantFirst of many rides in FC. Can’t wait! Could there be a better starting point? NOPE!

ParticipantI’m planning to attend.

ParticipantI view those numbers kinda like figure skating scores from Olympic judges. It’s not perfect but it’s the best we got. Now get back out on the ice…..BUT DON’T FALL! :p

ParticipantAnother update for the Team Billy Goat Prize. Keep finding those hills because you don’t wanna miss out on the spectacular prize to be awarded to the winning team.

ParticipantAnd this data on ridership: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/2014/01/30/0de13f9a-89e1-11e3-833c-33098f9e5267_story.html
Would have liked to see a little more rigorous analysis. For example, it appears that CaBi use spikes on Mondays, regardless of temperature. Wonder if the stats would bear that out.

ParticipantAnd now this from today’s WaPo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/frigid-temps-are-no-barrier-to-the-growing-number-of-bicycle-riders/2014/01/30/065155b0-89c0-11e3-916e-e01534b1e132_story.html?hpid=z5
Surprisingly no mention of Freezing Saddles 2014. Who can ID themselves in that photo on the Key Bridge?

ParticipantHave never seen a XC country skier on the trail. But yes, seems like the sides of the trail would be more appealing for those folks. As for the markings, this issue must arise when they plow the roads, no? Same with the damage to asphalt claim.
Rob_O
ParticipantAnybody buying this response from NVRPA on why they don’t plow the W&OD?
We do not plow the W&OD Trail for several reasons; first of which is that any plowing would damage the asphalt and the thermoplastic markings/stripings we have on the trail. Secondly it is a multi-use trail and the cross-country skiers in the area have used (and continue to use ) the trail.
Our maintenance staff are continuing to clear back intersections of snow and ice; assuming no further snowfall they should be finished later this week with this.
Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
XXX XXXX

ParticipantI have decided to scrap the Team Turtle prize due to major conflict of interest.
Anyway, here is the current leader board for the Team Billy Goat Prize. Impressive riding by the Rusty Studs, currently sitting in 8th place in the team points race. Keep it up!Team Elev. Gain per Mile (feet per mile)
Rusty Studs 45.89
Team 9 from Outer Space 45.07
Team Slackers 43.21
Bollard Busters 38.36
Action News Team One 38.19
Scoundrels and Nerf Herders 34.45
Lucky 7 Samurai Sandbags 34.35
Team Bacon – Is Sizzling 33.73
Sloppy Seconds 29.55
Lentement mais Surement 23.46Rob_O
ParticipantProposing two new prizes:
1) Team Billy Goat. Team that climbs the most and the metric would be Elevation Gain (feet) / Distance traveled (miles).
2) Team Turtle. Team with lowest average speed (mph).
Prizes to be determined. I assume this data could be generated pretty easily, yes?

ParticipantDid some riding in Mexico last February. Beautiful scenery and was happy to get the points!

ParticipantI will try to remember to keep my rear lights steady while on the trail in Va. But, if rear blinkies are that bothersome to folks you almost always have the option to pass or slow down. Just sayin’.

High powered bike lights definitely are great to see by and see people, but they really mess up anyone you come in contact with. If you’re following someone for any length of time, dim your light. You don’t need as much if you’re second in line.
Good to know. Though, it was on the lowest setting and not blinking. I tend to think the larger issue here was an anger management problem.
But I will keep my distance throughout the winter. -
