ParticipantCould the rubber gasket be part of the issue? Although that doesn’t make sense when I think about it, as a schrader valve is “fatter” than a presta, and if your pump still works on presta valves…

ParticipantWell unfortunately this evening I get to add to this thread… 😡
Me: Rider merging on to the right most lane on 15th street following the end of the bike path.
You: Uniform Secret Service car, gave it just enough gas to pass me and then, without using the indicator, shifted lanes to park right after the spot in the parking lane where the bike/rickshaw guys wait for customers.
Me: Got a couple of “whoops” and claps from tourists as I demonstrated my bike handling skills with moving reverse wheelie (breaking so hard I was wheeling on my front wheel).
You: Window open, smiling, had clearly seen the entire thing from your squad car. Could not tell if it was a smirk or an embarrassed “shouldn’t have done that” look.
Me: Hyperventilating thinking just how close I was to leaving a nice facial imprint on the back of the secret service car.

ParticipantGood commute last night… decided to take it easy and small chain ring it up the Arlington/Custis mountain and… got home faster.
All in all a good ride home, rendered that much more pleasant by the chilled beverage that I found waiting for me.

ParticipantCouldn’t a shot like this (preferably with more of the street in view) be used as evidence for a parking ticket, at the very least?

ParticipantYes wonderful commute… I second your proposal. We keep this weather year-round and significantly improve quality of life in this area.

ParticipantDiabolical contraptions…

ParticipantThe commuting weather and being on the bike (after an weekend of being press-ganged into yardwork and french drain digging by the Minister of the Interior and Finance and All Domestic Affairs (MIFADA) was great this AM.
The body and especially the legs were not cooperating. Was a struggle to commute (mainly downhill) this AM to work. Here’s to hoping that the Monday AM blues do not continue into the evening for my legs.
I suspect the second pannier with the work laptop and two weeks supply of Illy coffee did not help… but they are both necessary!
Ugh.

ParticipantAre you trying to tell me that segment at 92kph in DC (~57mph) might be fudged in some manner?
I am shocked. Shocked I tell you!
Harry, I never, ever ever fib with regards to my cycling stories. I really did beat SuperMario in a training sprint using my 42 tooth chainring up front a few years ago in Tuscany. No really…
Strava is what it is. I use it to compare my results over time. What others do is a simple, pleasant distraction.

ParticipantI love that one…

Participant@Dickie, excellent news.

ParticipantWelcome! As another relative newbie, also commuting from Arlington (N. Arlington in my case, off Lee Highway) I think you will find a commuting route quite easy to set up.
I am partial to the 14th Street Bridge which also allows you to add a few laps of Hains Point if and when you get a chance. An option. While I cannot comment or vouch for the bits in S. Arlington (others with more experience will certainly jump in on that bit) I can tell you that the trail from the Merchant Marine Memorial, across the 14th Street Bridge and into the District is a route I take quite regularly and is A-Ok.

I just replaced my inner chainring for the same reason….put on new chain to discover the cassette was worn, installed new cassette and chain to find my inner chain ring was worn. Finally got it right, but being Campagnolo I had to sell the rest of the bike to afford it
1. You are a good man.
2. It is totally worth it.
3. I have Shimano 105 and Ultegra on two of my rides and Campagnolo Record 10v on my third. It is always so wonderful when I ride Campa. Almost done collecting random parts to shift my commuter over to Campa…

ParticipantHonestly this is so silly. Personal responsibility Mr. Strava… we all have it [potentially, at least].

ParticipantHave not tried it for the Vuelta, but have also had excellent luck with Belgian TV streaming – RTBF – the Flemish language site.
