Yarp. It was about 6″ this morning and moving slowly. I played in it for a few minutes, but then went on.

They are building some sort of drainage basin up on Van Buren – or at least that is what it looks like. When we had Rainmageddon last year I tried to ford the fjord but just gave up and went up Columbia – must have been about 4′ of water at least 20-30′ in circumference. My tomatoes are growing like DYNOMITE.

I’ll also add that the Mount Vernon Trail boardwalks are slick as snot when wet. Be careful with them. I’m pretty good at bike handling and I almost decked it today on the MVT coming off of Roosevelt.

I’ve broken my thumb at the s-curve and still have a map of Cyprus on my thigh from last winter’s ice.

Ahh, but it’s more smug to have a car that’s paid off, gets pretty good mileage, and almost never moves. When it does move, it usually has four people in it.

Ditto on using my land boat infrequently, I had to start putting fuel stabilizer in it once I realized the same tank of gas had been sitting there for three months.

This morning I noticed a 10 mph sign a few yards before this stop sign and do not remember seeing it before. Is this a new sign? I definitely agree that cyclists need to be careful and go slowly through that area. However, the sign seems to be another example of traffic control authorities’ default presumption that the best way to solve any safety issue is to slow down or stop cyclists. Will we be seeing Arlington Police with radar guns to catch anyone going over 10 mph?

Sounds like it is time for a “Use Common Sense” sign – also – the Marriott seriously needs to tell people “I know you like to walk in s-curves along the sidewalk, hell, that is just American. But PLEASE try to keep to the right side of the sidewalk just outside of our establishment.”

B-Team is rocking it right now, mostly thanks to Dirts insano mileage. Might try doing a couple of long weekend rides to pump up the jams, keep pumpin, and such and such.

I’ve been pining for a new chrome bag – my 8+ year old Timbuk2 bag has a nice olive drab color superimposed over the blue and white. I’ve been watching slickdeals for a while now – they never go on sale!

I’ve done the quad pump (no feet no hands) but just for fun, and ALWAYS with a helmet – 29er required.

That particular bicycle officer could be a lot more polite in his dealings with the public. I’ve had dealings with him 4 or 5 times and he’s very condescending and preachy. Just talking with him and Arlingtonrider on Friday, it was very hard for me to not be snarky. I guess I have a chip on my shoulder from previous interactions. Certainly that is MY issue, not his.

If I’m thinking of the same bike officer, then our collective chips could form some sort of snide pyramid of bicycle wisdom. Then again, if I had to hide in bushes, enforce a stupid law (REVERSE THE STOP SIGNS!), and deal with road weary cyclists (he was out there last July and looked like he had sweated out about 10 lbs), then I would probably have some social issues as well. PERSPECTIVE I SAY!

Bluemont underpass was 6″ deep in water this morning. It was fun riding through it. :D

I misunderestimated the depth of water next to the Independence sinkhole, luckily I was wearing my neoprene diver booties. Everyone loves booties!

All around terrible idea. Good luck arguing your case if you get into an accident with earphones in. Personally, I use my time on the bike to reflect on my day and life in general – really therapeutic stuff.

I missed them this morning, fear of crowds is strong with this one, but will probably pass by the Falls Church ones in the afternoon. Maybe I can duck out early….maybe.

Went with an obnoxiously bright orange windbreaker and completely out of season gortex booties (need new cleats).

I figured it would be a busy “on your left” day, so I actually counted the number of times I said it -98

I’ve also found that you can take any wet (clean) clothes and roll them up with the camping towel. If you do it right you can get a surprising amount of moisture out of things like chamois.

Ramming Speed! One bad lawyer spoils the bunch. Seriously though, sometimes it isn’t worth the effort. Give em a double gun next time and send him on his angry way.
