So are you agreeing with me that it feels like cheating for someone who regularly rides without pedal-assist but that there is a place for pedal-assist bikes for people with mobility issues, motivation issues, or no-sweat-ride requirements that wouldn’t otherwise bike?
I read that whole thing as
HTFU
which makes me sad.

ParticipantI would love to have effective turn signals. And I kinda miss my automatic brake light (triggered by a compression switch on the rear brake cable). But before I even get to the fact that “water resistant” is inadequate, there’s the problem that people don’t expect brake and turn signals on bicycles. Certainly not on helmets — maybe if they were rack mounted with the turn signal lamps on stalks like an old touring motorcycle. But not that design.
Even though it brings back pleasant memories of the original Battlestar Galactica series’ pilot helmets…

The wheel didn’t fit in the frame dropout without the hanger either so everything got a very light filing and now it fits!

Since you wish this inane conversation to continue, I think safety is enhanced by people on bikes riding responsibly on whatever bike-like contraption seems to motorists as a bike. Trail miles shouldn’t count. Furthermore, since most motorists can’t distinguish between pedal-assist and hub motor e-bikes, they should all count.
The problem is that there is no universal snugness scale when discussing bicycle and bicycle-like contraptions.
I think the real problem is that if you codify all those logical rules in an effort to only reward the most desirable behavior, you end up with something like a damned set of federal regulations and take all the fun out of the challenge.

There is NO important thing to Freezing Saddles. Freezing Saddles was NOT about advocacy. It was NOT about getting people on bikes.
See, now THAT is a lawyer’s disclaimer that sounds credible.
But I thought dasgeh was talking about various challenges, e.g. the NBC, whose acceptance of ebikes so irked Dismal they-oughta-make-everyone-ride-sewups-and-forge-their-own-chains Scientist. And NBC definitely is trying to get as many to ride as far as they can.
Unlike that salty winter BAFS mess.

Well, if the challenges are just designed to get people on bikes, why do they stress distance so much?
Are you trolling or do you really not understand why the important thing here for safety is bicycle miles ridden within view of people driving autos?

I want to try one of these; the price point seems good, I wonder how it actually rides:
What’s with the head tube? Chris at Velo Orange did the same thing with their new MTB — has the HT sticking way above the top tube. Looks like bad mechanical engineering to me. Wouldn’t it be far better to have a sloping top tube that joins higher up on the HT?

Ultimately, I’m fairly certain the police would err on the side of a pedestrian or cyclist in the crosswalk than a driver unless there was a lot of evidence (witnesses, etc) to say the cyclist just flew into he intersection with cars clearly speeding by in both directions.

I ended up just ordering a Topeak RideCase and Smartphone Drybag at closeout prices. I’ve been carrying my iPhone in my pocket, but it got wet when I got caught riding in the rain a couple of days ago.
Pro tip from observing dcv during BAFS — regular ziploc plastic bags work fine with smartphone touchscreens. Fragile, yes, but also cheap cheap!

I wouldn’t think you a jerk for reporting either of those. In fact, I think reporting a$$hat drivers to proper authorities is a favor to everyone else on the road.
This. Local police seem very reluctant to enforce traffic & right of way laws, so you certainly should not feel bad taking an opportunity to get help correcting dangerous driving!
