You will never need to pedal more than 29 MPH on a touring bike. Did you mean too high?
Well, he did say a 28″ low was low enough. Personally I want at a low gear under 21″ for a touring bike.

When will this thread die? It’s like the zombie apocalypse of threads.
Hopefully after ElectricCarDude stops riding on MUPs, which is hopefully before he’s involved in a crash.

ParticipantWait. When you got to work after riding two miles, the rim was cracked. But was it true?
IME a growing crack will take the wheel out of true. If the wheel was true when you left the shop and just as true at work, doesn’t that strongly suggest the rim was cracked when the bike left the shop?

The risk, however, that trying to more clearly ban him from the trail could ban a lot of us, notably families using e-assist cargo bikes, and we don’t want that to happen.
ISTM that NVRPA clearly could ban vehicles wider than 36″. That would still allow the use of traditional adult trikes like those from Workman, box bikes, double child trailers, and even the standard (not wide) Bikes At Work trailers.
It’s true that the ELF motor makes things worse, but the size alone creates safety problems, and I can’t imagine anything near that width being safe to operate on the WOD when others are out.

I’m too old to text let alone do it one handed with the non-dominant hand while pedaling. You young whippersnappers are so talented!
Ha ha. But seriously what’s this claim that you can’t apply power to the drive wheel(s) (can only coast?) unless your right hand is on the handlebar?

Participant“It is physically impossible to text and cycle, however, since applying power requires at least the right hand to be on the handlebars.”
What, there’s a hand-actuated clutch or something? That affects both the motor and the pedal/human power to the wheel?

ParticipantAlexandria’s Commonwealth Ave in Del Ray (from a block south of Monroe to Mt Vernon Ave) is in the process of being milled and repaved. Avoid if possible, and prepare to take the lane if you ride there.

ParticipantThat’s awful! I hope he recovers fully and quickly.
Am curious – on what basis was the citation issued? Did the police officer witness the incident? Ticket your dad based on the testimony of the motorist???

I fixed this on my ride this evening. I was curious and found that with a little elbow grease the arrow could be rotated to point in the correct direction (this may also explain why it may have been facing the wrong way before).
And why the box closer to Glebe lacks an arrow.
City staff still plan to install signage to clarify the setup.
Also police say the late September juvenile bike crash was not car-related. The motorist who stopped was just trying to assist. Whew.

Remind me more about this with a few details and I’ll pass it along.
Thanks. There used to be a “style” pull-down menu at the bottom of each page that allowed choosing a mobile-friendly layout. Here is another vbulletin site with that choice: http://www.singsupplies.com/index.php?styleid=10
(BTW I have no idea what that site is – was just googling for “vbulletin mobile skin” looking for technical documentation or guidance.)

OHHH somewhere for me to gripe! My favorite
Potomac Ave in Alexandria–at the intersection of Glebe road where you have to cross the street to stay on the trail. WHY is there a light post in the middle of the north west side of the trail? It makes turning at any speed terrifying–it creates a VERY tight turn. And just to add salt to the wound, on the north west side the call button for the walk signal is broken. I have now tried it almost every day for a month and it has NEVER worked. The call button on the east side works fine though, so I refuse to believe this is a user error.
Griping about this actually did help though–I just submitted a service request to Alexandria about the walk signal
What kind of response did you get from this? I am pretty annoyed to see your post because I reported the same d%~n thing on September 22 this year. On September 29 this year it appears that some kid on the bike got hit by a car while trying to cross Potomac Avenue. Now I hear you raised the issue five months earlier!?!
Staff told me they thought they would have signage clarifying the button placement installed around the first week of October. But as of today there still is no signage clarify which button does what.

Gore bike wear overshoes – Size 13.5-15 selling for $22.53 at Amazon Warehouse. Usually around $80.
Nice. Another good though ugly option for flat pedals is latex “nuke boot” shoe covers, which cost about $8, are high viz, and actually hold up pretty well, much better than you might think given that they are advertised as disposable.
