ParticipantThis is all good, but especially with the planned Cabi expansion into the Mall, what we really need is a safe link down 15th between where the lanes end at Treasury and the 14th Street Bridge.

ParticipantPerhaps we start a new thread on the forum?
A place to post:
1. Vehicle description
2. Tag
3. Driver description (if possible)
4. Date, time and location of incident
5. General description of incident
6. Whether or not phoned in to local authorities
7. Photos if you have anyPosts should provide accurate descriptions that can assist other riders in avoiding identified threats. In other words, don’t be derogatory and don’t vent. Do the venting in another thread like the Missed Connection thread. That way we have a resource that stays clean, concise, and useful to the community.
Up to y’all.

ParticipantI’ll lend you my rollers if you like.

ParticipantAnd now I’ve got a Beatles song running through my head.
Really glad I got to ride with you this evening. I especially enjoyed the bit where the wind did all the work.
Cheers.

I’ve actually been digging my improv single speed. I took the alternate non-Custis-W&OD route home yesterday and besides some standing to get up the hills it was pretty fun. I’m seriously thinking about building up some sort of 1×10 cross monstrosity.
It really is fun. Consider throwing together a beater fixie and see if it doesn’t suck you in.

Well, now you’ve done it. You left out “hop”.

ParticipantRide it! One gear is all you need.
And, depending on the gear, maybe some ibuprofen.OneEighth
ParticipantI love Christmas goose. And I think the little wretches know it, too…

ParticipantSweet!
That seals it—definitely riding along 4 Mile Run on the way home! May as well have fun with the old wheels, cx tires, and bottom bracket before swapping them out.OneEighth
ParticipantPfunk, we are starting out from about the same general area in DC. Wonder if I’ve seen you or ridden with you. You don’t happen to have a Redline CX bike with fenders, do you?
Anyway, I have one cautionary note regarding alternate routes—you’ve got the setting sun in your eyes going home on Washington Blvd and on part of Lee Hwy. What’s worse is that so do the drivers behind you.
But, Lee from Lynn until Kirkwood or N. Cleveland (with a right on Bryant and then a right on Wilson) is definitely a decent alternative. Personally, I like taking the hill from the Marriott on the road rather than on the trail.February 24, 2012 at 11:31 pm in reply to: Wind advisory for Arlington area – Friday 2/24/12, from 3 pm to midnight #936617OneEighth
ParticipantYeah, at no point were we ever in danger of not being in Kansas anymore.
Great to ride with you and catch up again. Thanks much!February 24, 2012 at 8:22 pm in reply to: Wind advisory for Arlington area – Friday 2/24/12, from 3 pm to midnight #936608OneEighth

Loop me in on the plans. I’ll ride with you, sir. It’ll be fun…. especially with 50mm deep rims.
Just make sure to get a photo of me riding off the side of Roosevelt bridge.
Lessee…riding one-handed across a bridge in high wind while fiddling with a camera…what could possibly go wrong?

Also, you all should probably be aware that the wind may be the least of your worries in the next couple of hours. A tornado watch has creeped up the coast throughout the day and has now been issued for counties south of immediate area and includes basically all of the Carolinas and Virginia. DC would likely be next to get the watch if the conditions permit. That kinda depends on how close the warm front gets to us and how fast the cold front moves through.
I’m suddenly reminded of Slim Pickens riding the bomb down in Dr. Strangelove…
This is gonna be fun!February 24, 2012 at 7:22 pm in reply to: Wind advisory for Arlington area – Friday 2/24/12, from 3 pm to midnight #936598OneEighth

Custis is pretty well sheltered from strong SW winds, but be careful on the bridges and the W&OD. I be leaving around 5ish if someone is looking to draft behind me at about 5mph!
You heading north on the MVT?
I’m planning on heading out from the Metro Center area between 4:30 and 4:40. Haven’t made up my mind whether to go north or south on the MVT, but either way, I’m also willing to pull a bit if anyone wants to join in.
