OK, when it’s raining and 40 degrees on Saturday, I’ll lie back on the couch and “let the miles come to me.” I’ll let you know how that works.
Fausto Coppi’s advice was “ride the bike.” Somehow, I think there was way more to it than that.
So now that it’s partly sunny and almost 50° are you more tempted to ride? [emoji3][emoji2186][emoji106]

Oh geez, leslie. You never, ever mention a curse when you are in the midst of breaking it. You have 20 days left. You aren’t actually a Galitzianer, are you, or you would know this. Now I must say a dozen “keneineharas” for you.
Do any of us really know where our ancestors are from? I mean I know where I’ve been told they came to the US from, but before that….? Weren’t they all often moving around to avoid pogroms?
As for Leslie, maybe you want a li’l bubble wrap for January til you get through a couple without incident…. 🤔 🤦🏾

Yeah, I have been having a hard time figuring out what is actually adulting. My examples: a funeral. A visit to the dentist. (I am sure that’s adulting, even if it’s not an errand!) An instance in which most of the ride was a commute, but I went out of my way to run an errand and didn’t start and stop GPS for that detour. (This last one seems like it ought to count, because we are counting trips rather than miles, but I will remove the tag if it’s not allowed.)
Conversely, I decided that a date did not constitute adulting. Not even if it included “adult content.”
I agree on your last one, Carol. Last week I did an errand on my way home from a recreational ride (OK 3 errands, but I didn’t stop the ride in between, so they counted as 1.) When you look at the leaderboard you can see that the miles per adulting ride matter – but I think it’s in the spirit of FS to encourage people to tack errands into other rides.

Anyone interested in a pre-happy hour happy hour? I work right nearby and don’t necessarily want to plug away until 6, so if you’d like to meet at Highline 5:30ish, let me know!
I’m going early but to Sweet Green first, with @Joan who has a concussion and is concerned about the noise level…. She’s only gonna stay at the HH for a short time because of it. We’re planning to get there at 5:20.
I tried to convince her to go to the HH early but I really don’t have any idea about the noise levels of the different places at that time. I suspect Sweet Green won’t be much quieter. But [emoji2368] I’m only guessing, you know? I suspect you’ll go to the HH early – but if not you’re welcome to join us for a li’l bit at sweet green before it.

Even if I did every single one of my errands on a separate bike ride, I would never come close. I mean, how many errands are there to do in a week? Three? Four?
Do we include entertainment as errands? I rode to the hockey game last night, but I don’t really consider that an “errand.”Oh yes…. I have a similar wonder. Sometimes I ride out to Riderwood with Joan to visit with her dad. I figure this is an errand ride for HER but not me. I mean certainly if she’s going to an appointment with him and I’m turning around when we get there, it’s her errand and just a ride with a friend for me…..
But what about something like last time (a wk ago yesterday) when I stayed & visited too? Is that an errand? Because I think it is for her. But for me? [emoji848] I mean I’m really just taking advantage of the opportunity to ride with a friend, so I don’t think so. But I did stay to visit with her dad. I like her dad, and it’s nice for him to have her visit, and nice for her to have company on that long ride (gran fondo long.) But an errand? [emoji848] That makes it sound like I didn’t wanna, which isn’t true.
The most errandy thing about it was that we left later than I wanted (because it risked riding in the dark [emoji15] which is a bigger deal for me than most.*) But you can’t rush old people. My father was like that too. It’s a bigger deal than riding in the dark with fewer pixels.
(*I have young onset glaucoma – so I’ve had it a li’l more than half my life already. Modern medicine makes glaucoma damage slow and gradual, which works great for people who get it when they’re in their 60s & 70s – but it turns out that when you get it at age 26, you start to have issues in your 50s. [emoji19])
Anyhow what do you think, @elizsnyder?

Hmm, here’s my problem with this one: If I do one bicycle ride, and I run four errands on it (not atypical), would I have to divide it into four rides in order to get credit for four times of adulting? Or could I tag/name the same Strava ride with four different tags, eg (from a recent ride) #FS2020Adulting Gym, #FS2020Adulting Breakfast Club, #FS2020Adulting Harris Teeter, #FS2020Adulting Post Office? (Each place is more than one mile from the previous place and more than one mile from my house.)
Weyull it looks like you do so exponentially more errands by bike than anyone else that it isn’t likely to cause an issue. Impressive!

Not a thread, it was via email. You’re captain of Team 17. You should probably make sure Chuck has your correct email.
Thanks Jon. He does, and I got it, thanks. I just thought it was here because of something Jessica said. [emoji16]

The FS2020 zipper pulls are here! Now you can be certain that the lunatic you saw riding with a joyful smile on his or her face despite the dark/cold/wind/rain/snow/sleet/ice is a fellow FS participant, instead of some other variety of lunatic.
The price is $2 for the first zipper pull, then $1 for each additional zipper pull. So one zipper pull is $2, two zipper pulls are $3, and so on.
If you’d like to buy them in person, come find me at a coffee club. I’m usually (although not always) at Swing’s in Alexandria on Mondays, Cosi in Crystal City on Tuesdays, Best Buns on Wednesdays, Whole Foods in Pentagon City on Thursdays, and Swing’s on G Street on Fridays. The zipper pulls will also be available for purchase at the kickoff happy hour on January 14.
If you’d prefer to have them shipped to you, send me the money via PayPal at https://www.paypal.me/komorebicycling. Add $1 to cover postage — i.e., one zipper pull would be $3 ($2 plus $1 shipping), two zipper pulls would be $4 ($3 plus $1 shipping), and so on. In the optional “Write a note” field, enter your mailing address so that I know where to send the zipper pulls.
I also have a limited number of FS2019 ankle bands ($2) and FS2018 zipper pulls ($1) available.
Awesome! I’m gonna plan to get them at the happy hour (unless I make it to best buns tomorrow am.) I’m in for 2 at least….
Also I’d love a couple of ankle bands from last year (1 will do if you have more demand than supply.) I got 2 last year but 1 is MIA and the other I just glued back together after accidentally ripping the green off of the velcro….
Thanks for doing this!

Luckily, Astro Lab is less than 1/3 of a mile away, and they WERE open, and they have delicious pretzels with cheese sauce.
I started with the Jupiter. The tasting notes say it has a soft mouthfeel, and that’s definitely true. I tried the wife’s Startaker. Similar beer, stronger finish. Then I moved on to the James Whirl Jones. Frutier and good. Similar to the first two. I tried the wife’s Peekaboo w/Mosaic. Honestly, all four of these are pretty much the same. Maybe I have a cold or something. I finished with the Boss – an IPA inspired by LIverpool from the British Premier League. It was super malty for an IPA. So malty, in fact, that I hesitate to call it an IPA. It was good, though.

Did you bring your daughters? For pretzels with cheese sauce maybe?

Is this place 21+ or is it possible to bring a 9 year old and 12 year old there? They are enthusiastic Pointless Kids riders. If so, it might be me +2.
Ohmygosh I hope it’s not 21+. The kids are some of the highlights of the event! There was even a kid specific pointless prize given out at the last closing FS happy hour – by a kid.
