I like that one, Boomer. Much better than this, which is sobering. So far I feel like we’ve been underreacting by a few weeks at least. However I think bicycling is good & hope this doesn’t happen here:

Correct. The organizing committee has been discussing the situation offline. Although we are still waiting for everyone to weigh in, I can say with certainty that we will be cancelling the end-of-season prize ceremonies.
    We are brainstorming alternatives.

The number of infected individuals is increasing exponentially. Cancelling events saves lives by “flattening the curve” of cases, as there are far too few test kits, hospital beds, respirators, etc. for the explosive transmission rates predicted. Social distancing is the only responsible option. Unfortunately the situation will get worse before it gets better.

The Freezing Saddles prize ceremony is one of the most fun and funny events in the whole year. I sure-as-heck wish we weren’t in this position. And this time we were excited to show off our new venue. The owner of East-West Coffee and Wine was going all-out for us to make it an amazing event.

We will write more shortly to confirm the cancellation and to suggest other plans.
In the meantime, wash hands, don’t touch your face, and be safe (on and off the bike).

With affection and clean virtual hugs,

    Hey Cynthia –

I’ve been thinking, what if we rescheduled it to be held outside during the day, at a park? Thanks to Cathy’s pointless prize we know where LOTS of them are!

Definitely an improvement over last year’s. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the power daily riders have had to make a difference. And we haven’t had the problem we had last year that teams were just stuck in place with no movement. This year there are some tight races!

…. says the captain of the team in 9th/10th place…. [emoji16]

Every time black diamonds passes us by I wanna glue David P to his sofa. But when they don’t I check his rides to make sure he’s okay.

lol indeed…we’d have to move to a warmer clime (where FS = Florida Saddles) to get her to ride over the winter!

Even that wouldn’t do it for my husband. Ok to be fair that’s not his obstacle…. He’s from Chicago. I’m the one who grew up in Puerto Rico. It turns out that waiting the winter out (or even biking LESS in winter as i used to before I found Freezing Saddles!) make me kinda depressed – whereas riding through it just kinda slows my pace and makes a lotta laundry (omg it’d be a load every 2 days if I stayed on top of it. [emoji2356])

Anyhow my efforts to interest my husband in freezing Saddles has only gotten him interested in the nerdier aspects of it. He actually sat down and did some math to show me that I was doing a good job supporting my team mileage when I pointed out that there are a couple of teams whose first 2 or THREE people are ahead of me on individual standings – and I’m 2nd on my team!

And last year he came up with a pointless prize. So…. [emoji1745] I’d be happy if I could get him to ride now, in the beautiful weather….

Hey @SteveO what are the upcoming national days? I used to find them in the calendar but…. Maybe someone accidentally deleted them?

Big thanks to my Samaritans last night. Hit a patch of black ice on the WOD last night under Carlin Springs overpass. I cushioned my fall with my face and rib cage. Thank you Carl Henn for sticking with me and walking with me to the parking lot for my rescue and your funny stories that made me laugh. Thanks to HF for picking me up and the 6 hour ER visit. Needless to say with 3 broken ribs, my FS2020 season is over, but always thankful for the wonderful bike friends in my life.

Just heard about this on my ride yesterday(because clearly not fluent on waba forum yet…. maybe also cuz I was outta town last weekend having a misadventure it took me a few days to recover from.)

Anyhow I wanna add my offer to help you with anything, Sarah. I live probably only 5 miles from you on the w&od, and have more flex in my weekday schedule than many of the others. If HF can’t do it all for you or is out, try meee[emoji3590]

Could folks double-check their Loopy rankings now please? We’ve fixed some of the synchronization issues that had freezingsaddles.org showing fewer segments than were reported in Strava.

Just saw this. I’m counting 18 loops on my strava feed, but the leaderboard says I have 7.

Also it says that the segment I ride the LEAST is the one just outside my house…. my trail access basically – probably one of the segments I ride the most. [emoji848]

I prefer the counterclockwise loop, so most of mine are probably counterclockwise – sounds from this thread like the loops might be being counted with different effectiveness going in the different directions.

So it was you! Yeah I heard. It’s in my strava post for that day. So sounds like I got Samantha right, except she was the first one (not cbganimal) who called out (didn’t use my name) and you were the 2nd, who did!

I need to look at the people on the bikes more! I seem to use my ears rather than my eyes…[emoji2356]

    Anyhow I’ll see you tomorrow!

    Black Diamonds, Everyone! All welcome!

Tomorrow is the big day. I plan to get to Starbucks around 9 AM before the ride for coffee to warm us up for the start!
Ride begins at 9:30 AM. All participants who complete the artwork are guaranteed at least 67 BAFS 2020 points!

The artwork is a surprise. You won’t know what your drawing (riding) until you finish. Pointless Prize awarded on the spot awarded to the first rider to identify the picture! (brand new Capital Bike Share sunglasses)

Hey Dave! I’m planning to join you – I can’t resist the surprise art!
My teammate Cassy is coming too, from Takoma park.

    Looking forward to it!

Since teams were assigned, you have to be in a team club, not just the overall FS club, to be on the leaderboard. He got assigned to a team. Unless he has participated in FS before, he will shortly be unassigned from a team.

He has. That’s Dan Parrett. I’ve been following him since some previous FS year. He comments. He’s nice. And now with the epidemic & travel ban I’m glad he’s also here.

There’s a Strava art ride listed for Saturday 2/8, but it doesn’t say who’s leading it. Anyone know? My best guess is Dave P…. maybe I should ask him….

Also I’m thinking of going…. Is anyone else?

    This is the ride description:

It’s hard to think of a more fun way to get BAFS points. A bike ride that makes a picture! This event is open to all freezing saddles riders

    Strava/GPS Art Ride
Saturday Feb 8, at 9:30 AM Meet at Italian Store at Spout Run

This is a 12 mile ride that is a combination of secondary and residential streets and the Custis Trail. You’ll have to do the ride to see what it is, so it will be a mystery until you post your ride(s) This is a no-drop ride, avg speed 10-12 mph. You must be comfortable riding on Lee Highway and Washington Blvd, but nothing busier than that.
    Bonus…..Donut stop! Along the route

I’m SO ready for some freakin’ snow.

OK you guys are all beasts. To my mind the spirit of freezing saddles is don’t let the weather stop you! But frankly as long as it’s cold enough to keep the masses of wobbly riders off the trails, this is plenty cold enough for me…. I have my Monday ride all planned out – no shame in taking a break from winter when it’s offered.

Besides, last time we got splop I found out that the brakes on my “snow bike” STILL don’t stop when they’re wet, despite all the work Pete did on them…..
My other bikes (which do stop) have 23s, and won’t fit anything wider than maybe 25s. Lost my rear light stopping the hard way on Veitch at Lee that day … And Joan is still recovering from the concussion she got the next morning when she went for a walk thinking it would be safer than biking (so without her helmet of course. [emoji1751])

Having said all that, I’ll also disclose that I grew up in Puerto Rico, so my happy childhood memories are all temperate…..[emoji16]
