ParticipantLook for a pump that would fit inside a water bottle, and 120+ PSI.
Also, don’t buy a multi-tool without a chain tool, since you need the latter sooner or later. Here are some options with decent reviews/quality: $19, $13.
Kleenex or gloves is probably the most forgotten item when packing flat repair stuff.

ParticipantHere is a smart watch with decent reviews for $30 that supports Text/Call alerts with ID. Make sure that it supports your phone. It doesn’t have a GPS, it uses the one in your phone.
The 4th product picture shows what a call alert looks like, and in this review, the second picture shows what a text message looks like.

P.S.: Avoid Fitbit watches, most of them are water-resistant, not water proof.

ParticipantThat’s a bit rude with the bird image, and I am guessing you are being sarcastic. I am one of those who gets asked if I am OK frequently. It kind of stopped for me now, because I try one or all of these things:
1 – Look up at the sky, like bird watching.
2 – Pretend to drink from my bottle.
3 – Stop at spots with wider grassy areas, or trail intersection, and be far off; outside normal talk and hearing range. When I do #3, I notice the so called friends resisting getting off the trail just to see if I am okay, some prefer to yell at the top of their lungs instead of getting off the trail, and they call themselves good Samaritan. One biked into the intersecting trail to ask me, and I am like oh nooooo! I guess I wasn’t worth getting into the grass for it.

ParticipantTwo things:
1 – There is a myth that some drivers(and bike thieves) believe in; that some cyclists have money to burn just because they ride “fancy” bicycles. Why they don’t use cheap bicycles? I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am 30% faster on average(for a 10-Mile ride) on my road bike(18 LBS) vs my upright aluminum hybrid with front suspension(28 LBS). I am probably 50% faster than *mart-type bike or even more. So having the right tool for the job means getting there on time, or not at all.
2 – The one who breaks traffic laws(regardless of whether they were enforced or not) will get more liability. The one who doesn’t fully stop, gets more liability when bad things happen. A driver who keeps his lights off and prefers to be invisible gets more liability. A cyclist who go the opposite way on bike lanes gets more liability, and so on.
A cop could be present and not enforcing the law when there are no crashes, but once something happens, you discover that enforcement or lake of, or how traffic laws are commonly interpreted(by people copying each other) is irrelevant in court. The one who’s opinion matters is the judge presiding on your case. A police officer or lawyer with a long experience in the subject may have a better guess on what the judge is going to decide.
So, many people fall for the trap of deducing laws based on how they were enforced, and this seems to be a local thing(County/State).

I read in the press release that UBER is working on technology to make the JUMP bikes autonomous. I dont know – kinda seems like a bad idea.
In rural areas like Fairfax, the nearest bike could be a mile a way or more. It would be great if it comes to me, and when I am done, it could park itself in a less crowded spot. It would also be great to have an inflatable Kermit the frog doll when it’s doing that.

So maybe this is a good time to follow up on this…I have found things that work for my bike needs and wants, and very slowly I have adopted new standards to give me a better experience, but when I read about what other people are buying or trying out, I sometimes wonder if I would have even more fun and better riding experiences overall if I got out of my well-worn groove every so often. Just how much am I missing be riding the same tires all the time? Just how much am I missing by not upgrading my bargain stem or seat post? Certainly I get bitten by the bike bug every so often, and have to build up something new and different, but I’m pretty sure I don’t get nearly as creative as many, particularly when I read this thread. What motivates all you gurus to try out something different? Dissatisfaction with something current? Mere curiosity? Proverbial greener pastures? Boredom?
You are not missing out on anything if you have belt drive with no chain to maintain.

ParticipantHere is the second flattest path to Giant that I know, but it involves using a sidewalk that is somewhat unnoticeable, and negotiating a bad corner at RT7/Carlin Springs RD intersection(The gas station corner). That’s why sometimes I prefer the first option. Here is a StreetView of that sidewalk.

ParticipantHere is the path I use to get to Giant, mostly through Seminary RD, which is the flattest option I could find to Giant. I use the sidewalk sometimes, and sometimes the road, which is lightly trafficked at that segment. There is a Safeway in the area too, which has a wave rack to the south(StreetView link).

I’m curious about these, because I have NO interest in them, and response from most folks I know is similar, but it feels like they’re capturing a group of people that aren’t interested in biking, or really, walking. The perception seems to be that it’s more approachable/more fun/easier to use/easier to wear professional attire than a bike. A woman in my office said seeing them filled her with delight. While I’m not into scooters, I am into people being delighted by their transportation options. I have similar thoughts on the e-boost skateboard/e-unicycle/mixed rideable communities that I’m starting to see.
I always thought those who buy scooters/skateboards did so because they couldn’t afford bikes, or because they are more long lasting than cheap bikes, so they have better value. I think the average person who never tried scooters/skateboards and the like is scared from falling while using them(and so am I). So I think they appeal to those who tried scooters/skateboards before.

Great idea. It’s almost like…..a dock.
