ParticipantPretty cool, but not for me. I don’t think I could deal with that thing around my neck. Interesting concept, though. I’d like to see an airbag system integrated with the frame that would deploy a cushion in the event of a crash.

This year’s bollard crop sure is lookin’ fine, Pa! Soon it’ll be time to harvest!
Just like my mom used to say about the corn: “Knee high by the Fourth of July…”

ParticipantI really like the “Love your Commute” slogan. I think it would resonate with anyone who lives/works/drives in the DC area. It would seriously get their attention because everyone hates their commute…..except cyclists. And maybe slugs.
Cyclists are the only commuters I see smiling.

ParticipantLooks like the bamboo stand just off the south MVT near the stone bridge. but mstone is right….. they’re all over the place. My guess is that they were ornamental and went crazy.

4,535 total trips as of right now. Maybe we can reach 10,000 by the 15th.
How cool would that be!!

ParticipantGreat post!! I thought it was just me. I have a hard time riding with no hands due to an inner ear thing that screws with my balance. I’m gonna try some of the things that were recommended here to see if I can do it. Practice, practice!!

ParticipantLooks like 106 was the record for DC set July 20th, 1930.

That’s awesome! 10,000 trips should be no problem.

ParticipantI’m in….. The site is painfully slow on my end. I logged one ride so far. I think I’ll wait to log my other rides to see if it speeds up. Here’s hoping the site is bogged down from so many DC area riders signing up!!

ParticipantI was 4th place on the DC/VA/MD list earlier today but the GC contenders are moving up. I should have taken a screen shot.
I’m 17th as I write this.

Oh the humanity!!!
Fast forward three days…. Power back on… Cable…. Wifi…. AC… Wife happy….. Life is good!!!!

ParticipantI rode through there this morning. I was going north so the detour had me cross Washington Street and ride up the sidewalk on the other side. On my way back, I crossed under the bridge and rode up the road by the apartments and turned south on the MVT. The worker moved the cones so I could continue. The north-bound detour was totally unnecessary except for people that wanted to stay on the Washington Street sidewalk. For MVT riders, all they had to do was direct people down the road instead of the trail next to the bridge. I felt bad for the worker that was enforcing the detour. I’m sure he got an earful from many people today.

ParticipantI witnessed a great Cat 6 race this morning on the MVT between Four Mile Run and the Crystal City turn off. Two guys on hybrids with panniers going at it…..back and forth…..one in front then the other….. One was a climber and the other was strong on the flats. I had to turn off, but I wish I could have followed. It was classic. One guy made a dumb move and passed at the airport stop sign with a car coming, but other than that is was good, clean racing.
