ParticipantCase Bridge has scaffolding on the long span, close to Hains Point. I think it’s sign work, it may be there for a while.

ParticipantCase Bridge has some pretty big scaffolding on it now, which makes for a tight squeeze… it’d be a problem if it were a busier bridge.

ParticipantHad a very wet commute with periods of light and heavy rain. Couldn’t get my shoes completely dry this morning, even though they’re about 90% mesh.
Also, there is scaffolding of some sort up on Case Bridge, and it’s a very tight squeeze around it. Boo. Still, it’s the most convenient / direct route for my eastbound commute, so I’ll continue using it.mello yello
ParticipantI was thinking this could be the explosive coffee club… because c4…
I had a wonderful ride this morning, but because I didn’t get in until about 8:40, and left at about 8:50, I didn’t see anyone else. I did have a nice relaxing break and the extra 4 miles were easy trail miles.

Participanthmm… +4 miles… I’ll be bringing my own and see who is there, probably around 8:30-8:45. I need to practice for next year’s BTWW where I will stop at the CC stop even though it’s not remotely on my way to anything.

Not an actual picture… BTWD Rosslyn Pit Stop / Party via Strava Flybys

ParticipantWas probably the first day in quite a while the grass was dry enough to mow! I avoided the trail because of how crowded I knew it would be. Still was great seeing 3x the number of cyclists out as normal, although it’s probably a combination of me leaving at 7:15 instead of around 8, and 2x the normal people.

ParticipantFirst commute in over a month – I moved jobs again, now going to Courthouse. Time biking = time on Metro, so this will be an ongoing thing. Plus, I get to do the Custis hills near Rosslyn! I actually needed to see how long it would take me to get to the Anacostia and Rosslyn BTWD stops – I’m registered at Anacostia, and meeting work people for a group photo at Rosslyn.

Participantgorgeous weather… got out my vintage road bike… and realized that it’s too small
I’ve always known this, but I never remember when I hop on it.
Then hopped back on the fixed gear, realized how nice it is to switch things up. I’m itching for that N+1 to be finished so I can pop it into the rotation. one PF30 BB and a few hours with some tools and I should have it ready.Missing my Abus lock. I have a backup, but that folding lock was pretty nice.

ParticipantI must have dumped out my Abus folding lock last Thursday’s or Friday’s commute somewhere. No idea where – I don’t lock up at home, and I didn’t have it Friday when I arrived at work – I’ve been keeping it in the trunk bag instead of strapped into the holder.
If anyone sees it, let me know – I totally forgot that this could be a resource until now.
Friday on the return commute I dropped my phone – but that was a) running Strava and b) being called by my wife repeatedly… had to drive to Palisades to pick it up from the good samaritan who picked it up.

ParticipantGlad to meet you guys, it was certainly hair-raising, but I’d forgotten just how do-able those trials are. Next time I’ll be early enough to meet you at the parking lot!
For those thinking that it sounds fun but you need a mountain bike – I did it on a rigid touring frame with 28mm tires and full fenders. I would not suggest doing it fixed… pedal strike on the water bars makes for a bumpy ride. Wider tires would also make it a bit more stable and fast.

ParticipantThis evening I was trying to hightail it home to pick up the little one from daycare – I never leave myself enough time, somehow… Anyway, I was taking a lane on Maine eastbound where it turns into M, and some shrimp [choice word] in a Hummer decides he’s going to turn left in front of me… but then has to stop because there are pedestrians in the cross-walk. His gargantuan compensation is all over about 2 whole lanes, and since there’s nobody in the left lane I dodge left to go behind him… and mis-judge the corner. I clipped his tail light with my brake hood and shoulder, at pretty good speed, which started the following exchange:
Me: F!
Him: [wait to roll down window] A$$hole! A$$HOLE!
Me: [gestures] birdI didn’t lose control and didn’t stop, and was probably being an a$$hole in all fairness, but it still made me mad. Luckily there’s this outlet called bicycling.

ParticipantWonderful day today… great weather & cherry blossoms. Dodging tour buses on Ohio Drive & around Lincoln is never fun but better than near the Jefferson.

Exactly. Yesterday there was a lot of cherry blossom traffic on this route, however, so you might consider the Case Bridge routes suggested above by Steve O and mello yello. My bike won’t do the switchbacks, so I’ll be braving the crowds. But after the cherry blossoms are gone, things should lighten up and return to normal.
Yeah, this morning I was riding in the right lane and a bus was stopped in the right lane… should have gotten left, but instead I decided to split the parked bus / right lane stopped bus… sure enough, when I got halfway up stopped bus opened the door in front of me. I can’t wait to have Water Street back so I can avoid Maine altogether. Water Street used to connect right to the fish market parking lot, making for a convenient low-traffic alternate. It would still require jumping on the eastbound sidewalk going westbound in front of the marina.
