ParticipantI added the low intensity LED flashers for the trail front and back. They work great. They are LED truck clearance lights.
Added low beams! The 4th switch is now the high/low switch. High beam obviously is the death ray on the handlebar.

ParticipantYa it was amazing. Friday I rode to work in winter gear and rode home in shorts. The ride home was like a spring day with peds on the CCT in Bethesda. Usually it is deserted. Saturday my friends and I went for a hike around Great Falls on the Billy Goat Trail. The parking lot at great falls was packed and a line was up the road to get in by late afternoon.
And a few days ago, it was snowing.

ParticipantMost people put them down and hide them when a cop is nearby. I’ve never heard of anyone actually flaunting it and attempting to argue about it. Should have just tazed him.

ParticipantI’m sure the judge declined the warrant because the officer worded the affidavit in a manner to ensure it was declined. He didn’t want to do it in the first place and you can easily make sure it goes no further that way. If the officer was motivated to actually arrest a person who committed a violent crime in broad daylight, he would have been in jail months ago.

ParticipantFuel oil spills are one of the worst odors out there.
The C&O canal has been smelling especially ripe lately too. NPS was dumping water yesterday ahead of the impending heavy rain which stirred up even more lovely odors.

ParticipantThe building/agency doesn’t have a gym and locker room?

BRILLIANT! I’m going to try that next time.

I’m curious as to how many people are commuting in the evening at this time of the year. I’m very familiar with the MVT at all hours but am curious to know how the CCT is at night (I’ve only been on it during daylight hours). As a chick I’ve been reluctant to try it out after dark.
I don’t have much to compare it too. But I’m never alone for long. I’m probably on the CCT for 30-40 minutes I usually see 8-10 other people regardless of what time. I can’t compare that to anywhere else or other times of the year though.

ParticipantFaragut North was a bundle of joy after this ride. The 17th/K down escalator was broken. The 17th & M was completely closed for repairs. And the on the other side of CT was also closed for service. And the elevator is hidden. I went around the block three times looking for it.
Metro Forward…. every so slowly.

ParticipantI had a good one the other night. I come around a sharp bend on the “Bethesda Trolley Trail” to find a pack of high school kids wearing all black using the dark corner as a place to toke it up. They were just standing there oblivious to me needing to get through them. I had the deflector array on full power. I rang the bell to the point of sounding like a train. I actually had to stop. Finally I yelled “HI, I’M REAL, CAN YOU MAKE A HOLE PLEASE!”. They kind of drifted around to the point where I could weave through. I couldn’t figure out why they seemed like deer in headlights until I passed through them and smelled the situation.

ParticipantThe ones you linked is a $2.19 headlamp. Thinking that isn’t what you were aiming for?
My opinion on to-see lights for trail use is a little bit skewed. I’m a lighting geek. My job used to be making lighting systems so bright and annoying that people pulled over from a mile away. So to me, nothing less than 1000 lumens that will light up the trail for a 1/4 mile ahead and pick out a crouched deer along side is adequate. But I’m probably excessive.

Ortlieb panniers are as close as I’ve found to being rated for submersion. The ones that I’ve got are basically like a big ziplock bag. They did amazingly well on the two occasions that I completely submerged my cargo bike.
So, I would love to hear the story behind this one.

Err, bad form right out of the gate. Supposed to take bikes on the elevator through Metro stations, not on the escalator :p
This would require a Metro elevator to be working.

ParticipantI bought these things (Action Wipes) and I think they’re great. I keep a few in the bag at all times and I have the rest in my locker at work. I don’t really sweat more than a few drops in this temperature so it is all I need when I get to work. I sweat less on this 30 mile round trip than I do walking 3 minutes to the metro in the summer.
