Oy. About time. Really poor construction site management over that way, of late.

Yep, went up George Mason, right on S. Oakland around to S. Four Mile Run Dr., and then back up on South Oxford. You know, because we didn’t have anything better to do :)

South Oxford Street & S. Four Mile Run Drive. Access via S. Oakland St. Probably best to take a look at Google maps to see how to get there. I’d like to be helpful like Pete and paint a picture, but I’m not so good at that.

Do you still have your Hero? I think we need the whole journey compressed into a couple of minutes, one day . . .

Excellent idea, Zeke. I’m – wait for it . . . Mark. Joined the forum not too long after it was brought online by the good folks at BikeArlington. I’d met them through my work with the Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee, which exists to give feedback and guidance to Arlington County on matters affecting cyclists. It is without shame that I will pitch ABAC in the future.

After moving here from Atlanta in the late 90s, I bought my first bike (as an adult) from Washington Bikes, which used to exist in a little shack in the middle of a giant parking lot that is now better known as Clarendon Commons (B&N, Apple Store, etc.). With that, I discovered the joy of commuting to school in Foggy Bottom from our place in Ashton Heights. It’s been a steady progression forward since then, as my back room is now filled with bikes (each serving a purpose, really!) and my car seeing only the rarest of uses. I’m primarily riding the roads these days, and can be found hitting Hains Point at noon on a regular basis, but it’s time to make a sharp swing back into the dirt if I’m going to make use of this Shenandoah Mountain 100 registration I’ve got . . .

Also something of a pro cycling fan. I shoot races for a number of places and publications, but primarily for PodiumCafe.com.

And thus Dirt highlights the fact that he’s experienced a lot of “tough love” in his life.

(And yes, that’s on the Kill Bill Loop. Hit a hill near George Mason Dr. with Pat the other day that he thinks is tougher than 41st, but I didn’t experience my usual ohthankgodthatisover 41st St. feeling at the top, so I’m not sure I agree . . .)

Four Mile Run (the south side of things, through the trees)) also got some fairly recent paving love.

IIRC, the County is in the process of drawing up a(nother) priority list, involving trails and on-street facilities (i.e., bike lanes and sharrows). I’ll see if we can’t get a copy of the final product posted here, at some point.

You know, that top picture is exactly what’s wrong with Washington. All that time and effort to make a perch for a single bird!

(Very cool bike. Going to have to ask you for a test ride sometime.)

Huh. It strikes me that right now might be a good time to invite you out for a Hills of North Arlington ride :)

Was chatting at lunch today with a few like-minded Arlington cyclists about the usefulness of short rides that folks just getting into/back into cycling might enjoy. Nothing too ambitious, yet still worth checking out. I liked the idea of a bridge ride, which would stop and check out each of the VA-DC river crossings (starting with Key, down to the 14th St Bridge). I also thought that a Mall in the Moonlight ride might be worth trying at some point in the summer. Any suggestions?
