Is there any likelihood that anyone would still be there 8:30ish so I can go to Cafe Kindred first? I promise to wear my Crystal City kit.

If enough people show up at and stay for various times that seems possible. I for one hope it will still be going at about 4:30 when I return from work. That way the crystal city wine shop will be open by then. But as we all know open containers in public spaces is illegal, and hiding behind bushes clutching a consecrator doppelbock is antisocial so please nobody do this.

I spotted that guy with the previously white shorts too, about a quarter mile past that foot and a half rusty screwdriver that seems to be asserting squatters rights on the north shoulder of the 14th st bridge!

IMO these gray and yellow shirts look pretty dang good and are straight up comfy. I dare say I will be wearing this shirt all day and even on some more days. Thanks Tim and everybody else involved!

This would have been exactly the bike I wanted to buy 2 years ago as my sĀ“urban commuter but now it’s too late, and probably too expensive.

anyone else have an issue with defaulting your rides to transportation vs recreation?

Changing defaults never worked for me in years past… but this year, if you are using strava at least, if you tag the strava ride as a commute it goes to nbc as a transport ride. Otherwise it goes through as recreational. *better than nothing optimism?*

+1 for rags and spray bottle

A mere two or three months after buying my most recent bike I had to take it in to get the bottom bracket removed and serviced because it was making all kind of noise. The shop mechanic asked me if I had been riding it through a lot of water or something… No… but I had cleaned it with the hose two or three times! That was the last time I’ll attempt to clean a bike with a hose unless I turn into one of those muddy mountain downhill guys someday.

I’m putting a ban on anybody else around here buying bright green bikes! Don’t do it!

On a more serious note for Gov – I was just off the bike for a mere 2 week vacation and it took a whole week of riding around 20 miles a day before my meat saddle stopped complaining again. I have a feeling you’re right that all it will take is some more time. My first commuter took quite a while longer to break in, after a few weeks I took to calling it Taint Puncher.

Gainesville has quit the NBC before. Because one our teammates called them crackers I think. This time maybe because I accused them of cheating. Their club’s president is a drama queen. I’m pretty sure he’s reading this discussion. Sorry Jayson but I just don’t believe you came up with 200,000 LEGITIMATE points on the last day of the contest!

Anyway, whether they return or not, let’s have fun riding our bikes and let the chips fall where they may. Omaha has grown their team. They’ve finished ahead of us before. It’s good to have competition!

Around, but not putting up big numbers yet:

You just gotta laugh at that, considering the fits that were thrown last year about it.

I was in the traffic backup in the neighborhood yesterday, saw the ambulance was there but didn’t pay any attention to it cause im not much of a gawker. Hope the guy pulls through OK.

That’s a really sketchy area… Traffic going into or coming off of the onramps there is heavy and routinely doing 40+mph and NOBODY yields if you’re at any of the crosswalks. The path you can see on the right that cuts under the overpass is long and gets really secluded and penned in – there are some industrial tunnels or something by the path that look like a scene straight out of a horror movie. I don’t blame anybody trying to cross Duke there to avoid it cause it feels like rape city down there. Sucks.

For me, being worried about safety while riding Metro might even be less rational than being afraid of flying. Not that it shouldn’t be a concern for the people running the joint.

I stopped using Metro for commutes because my commute is not subsidized in any way, and bike commuting saved me a TON of money per year – even after factoring in the purchase of a new bike and maintenance and other gear, we’re talking hundreds and then thousands of dollars a year. Plus I could bike from NOVA to work in DC faster than it took me to walk just to and from the metro – forget about waiting for and then riding the trains. No brainer.

Yeah the whole thing was quite interesting and useful – it was one of only 2 or 3 sources from which I got a better than “PR BLURB” feeling about the candidates’ priorities and personalities. Shouldn’t have waited a year to thank you for it. Their responses to your questions drew pretty clear lines between their levels of interest in supporting “bike stuff”, and also who was… possibly insane.

Weird timing, cause I just had what I believe to be my first bike riding dream last night. I too rarely remember dreams and even this one is pretty fuzzy already, but I was I guess commuting to work in kinda crappy weather (should be familiar to anybody whose gone outside in the past 2 weeks). The trail started going into flooded marshlands and devolved into a 4 inch wide series of large stones sunk on their edges into the water. Like a hundred yard slate balance beam through the reeds. One of the stones fell over as I made my way over and I fell into the muddy water. I was a little pissed about getting wet but I grabbed my bike and started wading through to the other side – then my alarm went off. Yikes.
