Speaking of which, jogging with your left arm out has really become a thing on the W&OD. I didn’t realize the density of assholes passing too closely had gotten that high.
I have been wondering about this. I ring my bell and an arm sticks out. I thought it might be to make me keep my distance, but I wasn’t sure. At least I know they are paying attention to the bells. I have considered doing something like this on roads when cars are too close, but I wish to keep my arm.

Wouldn’t the appropriate response to such a signal be to slow down (noisily so would be a bonus), tuck in behind at their pace, wait a few beats, then ask: “Will you be turning left or changing lanes soon, or may I pass on your left?”

ParticipantSaw the goose this morning just before the Memorial Bridge underpass, was with another adult and one gosling. It hissed at the ebike rider behind me.

Wait! Isn’t that the role of those on the forum?

I’ve passed two peds this week who waved in response to my bell. I guess I’m lucky they didn’t stick their arms horizontally.

ParticipantThanks for all the suggestions. I’ll start looking for a spiked wheelset. Now if there were just some way to get rid of the goose droppings…

And to paraphrase Donald Trump, “You could stand in the middle of the Mount Vernon Trail and get a goose and you wouldn’t lose any supporters”

Fenders and pepper spray? Pepper spray is disliked by anything with eyes and nostrils and fenders keep the poo stripe off your back.
I gave an aggressive goose a warning shot of water from a water bottle that slowed her down a bit. A good shot of water in the beak might gain you some advantage with little chance to harm the bird. (I suspect they are waterproof)

I’ve been wondering if you could play tennis with these. They are fuzzy and kind of round like a tennis ball.

They would probably come off the racket cleanly at service, but the bounce would be messy and unpredictable.
