You’ve gotten good information. I do have a 1974 Scwhinn Speedster 3-spd I’d be willing to sell you for $35. Buy it to use for the 10 days, bring it back to me and I’ll donate it to Phoenix or the Velocity Co-op, which I was going to do anyway. PM me if interested.

Not quite as long, but a little more than 3 years along it and basically the same exact thought. There is basically nothing you can do. Sometimes I will move my hand up to shield my eyes just to do a quick sweep of the trail ahead of me to make sure there is no one there.

I’ve got 21 years of commuting through that spot and your statement is true – nothing to be done other than a hand shield. It’s even worse with the prism effect of rain covered glasses.

Opposite for me. Prefer 45 degrees and rain to 28 degrees and windy. Maybe I shoulda been from Portland.

I am from Portland and this morning’s commute made me feel right at home. Tomorrow’s not so much, I expect.

Had no idea. Not a big wine or espresso person, but I like the variety it adds to the businesses, especially up at that end of the Avenue.

I’m hoping it prompts the owner of Bill Anthony’s former garage on the corner to develop the property. That place as been sitting empty for years.

Due to distance (a few are under a mile away) I’ll have to combine a grocery trip into some of these, but off the top of my head I can already think of the following local coffee shops that are within 2 miles of my house:
    1. Swings
    2. St elmos (worst coffee ever so maybe not worth the pain)
    3. Starbucks
    4. Caboose
    5. Grape and bean
    6. Starbucks #2
    7. Seva
    8. Dunkin donuts
    9. Buzz bakery
    10. Starbucks #3
    11. Dunkin donuts #2

…I must live in the most caffeinated neighborhood EVER (del ray). And Google maps tells me there’s another 5 or so I’m missing…

And in December you will be able to add Emma’s, on Hume Avenue near Commonwealth, to the list.

I think I’ll stop by St. Elmo’s tomorrow around 7:00am on my way to work and leave a note on the bulletin board razzing all you late sleepers.:p Sorry I’ll miss you.

You: Mercifully stopped short of me by 10 feet and stood there looking like a silhouette from The Hartford’s logo.

Let this serve as a warning to all, it’s deer rut season and they are fearless.

You must have appeared quite attractive to him from a distance.

That would be Fast Friendly Guy, a regular on these forums. Say hi next time.

I was hoping to snag a photo of FFG and his jack-o-lantern helmet, but never had the camera out at the right time. It has been easy to spot him this week.

Flashing anything doesn’t belong on the trail. I always turn the headlights and taillights to constant as soon as I enter any MUP.

Including this? (And I agree on steady lights when on the MUPs)

You all just rode right past my house :-) We couldn’t make this one but will be riding later today. Plus I wasn’t sure the ride/route would be kid/trailer/friendly.

Mostly is. There is one short section on the return route that is close to single track. Might be iffy for the kid trailer.

Despite today’s warm temperatures, it is apparent Autumn is upon us.

I don’t care if it’s pouring tomorrow morning. Not going to sit in traffic again this week. Then off to the sunny west coast for work where I may even get to squeeze in a day of riding.

It really wasn’t bad today during normal commute times. No rain until some light sprinkles after 7:30am. Warm showers after 4:30pm when I was followed down the MVT by a guy in shorts and a t-shirt. He seemed fine. I did need to spend some time in the garage with a bourbon wiping down and lubing my rain bike, but that is one of the joys of riding in the rain. Never decide to not ride.
