2/10/21 Star (not on an American flag) (5 or 6 points)

This is the remaining orb of a pair at Reston Town Center. The other was removed for construction of the Leidos building and as far as I can tell, there are no plans to return it. Commerce trumps beauty…

There are many stars on this, but the one next to the comet is the focus – and is 5 pointed.

But this one truly is beautiful, and on a sunny day really sparkles. (Today was not sunny when we got there)

Trying to get a read from everyone as to whether they’re still up for this. High for the day is forecast to be 30 and there will be a lot of cloud cover. For a regular ride, it would be no big deal to just keep moving – but for an art ride, there’s a lot of stopping/starting up again and it’s a challenge to stay warm.

This is what the geologists have to say about it:

Boxwork sandstone: “Waffle rock” resulted when sandstone was deposited in a stream, filling cracks and joints in existing rock. (Conemaugh Formation, 300 million years old)

This place is in Herndon. I’ve never tried it but it’s on my post-pandemic list.

Finally! I’ve been meaning to get to this park in Herndon. And since the snow was melted around the sign, I got to see a glimpse of Spring!

One of my favorite pieces in Reston. The piece, and the artist, are very unpretentious. The colors continue along the side of the garage. They are also inside on the elevator shaft. Today I rode to the top of the garage to see if they continued all the way to the top floor on the elevator shaft.
