Thanks to bikesnick for unlocking the code for the #publicartfinder (NoT cAsE sEnSiTiVe) leaderboard.

At the midpoint of the BAFS2021 season, we have 49 participants to date. Holy PublicArtFinder Palooza!consularrider is on top of the leaderboard (though has a few questionable submissions of buildings that allegedly have art inside of them still under review by the faceless cabal), with Cathym and Serdar tied for 2nd place, and Kelley W holding on to 3rd place by a thread as Laura R [emoji210] Karen h David jiang are in hot pursuit. But the dark horse may yet be Catedrew on her trike and yard art exploits!
I will update the leaderboard standings based upon extra points awarded to date, and post that on a spreadsheet to this thread. In the interim, Ride on and find public art!
P.S. disregard my standing, as I am not eligible to compete in my own sponsored pointless prize;-)Sent from Boomer_Cycles via my iPhone using Tapatalk
You’ll be glad to know that on Friday I went through all my Strava hashtags to make sure I had only hashtags from ones that met your criteria (i.e., bike in photo!). With my +3 for philosophical musings, I’ll be at 35. But it’s just a game and a reason to get outside and bike, so I’m happy either way. Thanks Boomer for offering this challenge. It’s very motivating and uplifting. The best part is seeing all these other places where there is great art to pursue for enjoyment. My favorites are the ones where people are very specific about location. You may think “everyone” knows where something is in your neighborhood, but trust me, that’s not the case for people who don’t ride there often!

I’m guessing they weren’t actually open 24 hours when you went to get this photo …
I do love what they’re doing in the community.

ParticipantToday is total fail for me, the photo as well as riding at all. By 8am, I couldn’t even walk out on my driveway – which would have been necessary to get to the street for even a sleeze mile, much less riding to the local diner for a photo. So instead, I did this.

Now if only I could get to my local bike shop to hand off the cookies to young people who burn calories at a much higher rate than I do!

Like yesterday’s theater sadness, I found today’s dearth of celebrational decorations for Lunar New Year to be very sad. We rode past more than one Chinese food place – and nothing. I LOVE doing these searches, but they’re highlighting what we’re missing due to the darn virus!

AUUUGGHH! Yet another deviation. Let me see if I can explain the issue clearly.
1. Chuxtr’s instructions say:
I will once again sponsor the Coffee Ride pointless prize, but this year I’m calling it the Coffee Snob Ride pointless prize. For your ride to count towards the prize, hashtag your ride name on Strava with #FS2021coffeesnobride (case sensitive) and where you went for coffee (not part of the hashtag). New rule for this year is that you need to include photographic evidence on Strava that you were where you said you went for coffee. The winner (or winners if I feel like having more than one prize) is the person with the most coffee rides.
2. There is a page at freezingsadddles.org/pointless/hashtag/coffeesnobride that says:
Leaderboard for all rides hashtagged #coffeesnobride
It has 3 people on it
3. There is a page at freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/coffeeride that says:
Leaderboard for the BAFS 2021 Coffee Ride prize
Note that the hashtag to appear on this list is #FS2021coffeerideIt has 15 people on it
4. There is NO PAGE at freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/FS2021coffeesnobride — which was the original instruction (see #1 above)
Thank you — this has literally been fixed in the last 10 minutes!

2/12/21 – Ox
On your ride, find the likeness of an ox (or any bovine) or the letter combo “ox” out in the wild.

On my way to Alexandria’s fort WBTWD, I spied a bovine on the side of the Junction Bakery at 1508 Mount Vernon Avenue. Good pastries and sandwiches. They have outdoor dining spaces.
Doesn’t it constantly amaze you what you see once you’re directed to look for something? Who would have ever noticed that before? Nice find!

I went with a different zodiac and found Taurus … and yes, this is the same sculpture from which I harvested a “star” for the other day. It has many nice attributes.

All of the standings for Pointless Prizes can be seen by replacing the appropriate hashtag at the end of this link:
freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinder
At the top of that link it says:
“To see your own, simply go edit your URL bar and replace parkfinder with whatever you want. Only letters and numbers are allowed, and it is not case sensitive (so ilovekittens, ILoveKittens, and i-love-kittens will generate the same results).”Bookmark the link for your reading pleasure later.
Thanks – I figured that out once I got there and read that. There are a lot of new people to FS who did not have a clue about this, me included!

From my understanding of previous posts, the hashtags are NOT case sensitive.
This link has the standings for #publicartfinder (with any case):
https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinderBikesnick — how does one get to that spot if they don’t have the link? The drop down menu doesn’t list art? Thanks for the info about the case sensitivity. That’s a big help!

It’s probably too late now, and I could be wrong, but I thought that secstate implied that they would change the leaderboard code to count rides with either the old or new hashtag, so you changing hashtags would be unnecessary work on your end. The only reason to change them would’ve been if rides were tagged according to the wrong ruleset/criteria.
I have no idea how the inner workings of the leaderboard code are arranged. My point is that if someone was following what was up there already, the rules were that they could go to literally the same coffeeshop every time and count it. Under the Chuxtr rules, that would count once only. So if the code changes to make those all the same, it negates that rule for those times past the first one.
I didn’t have so many hashtags that it mattered in terms of the work involved. I find it challenging to find distinct coffee shops that aren’t swill that aren’t starbucks and that occur at a point in my ride where I’m willing to stop — knowing that I’m going to have to get back on the bike to finish after (often) getting chilled stopping. It’s a delicate balance of time/energy/sweat/and coffee dependency.
On the grand scale of things, the points are pointless and don’t matter. I’m not concerned about the prizes for myself – I just want to make sure that if I’m playing a game, I understand the rules I’m supposed to be following.

ParticipantWe’re not going to get enough warmth and sunshine for the trails (which are essential to this ride) to be safe. Cold we can handle – slick isn’t fun.
I’m leaning towards next weekend as the forecast looks much better – Feb 20 or 21. If you have a preference for which day, let me know!
Thank you everyone for staying flexible. The art will still be there when the conditions are safer to ride!

2/11/2021 Movie Poster
Movie theater at Fairfax Corner. I did see people going into the theater. I guess I’m out of the loop on what’s open and closed. (Not that I have any interest in being inside a theater during these times.)
If you are so inclined, you can actually see this movie tomorrow at 2:30 pm in exchange for $12.

Well that explains the burnt popcorn smell I detected while riding in that area!
