Yeah, I know
At about 4pm. I sometimes can’t tell if I made the hunt too hard or too easy. I was really busy at work today and didn’t have much time for breaks to check the forum, Facebook, or outside, but I did see it looked sketchy. Obviously, I didn’t want people to get hurt looking for particular types of cars, so I made it easier. To anyone upset about this midday change, sorry.
Not upset, just confused. I appreciate you putting the game on at all.

2/18/21 – Full EV
Even Teslas were hard to come by for me today (but not impossible).
The bike rack; yes, that was impossible for me today.Luckily, the city of Arlington bought some Nissan Leaf EVs. Too bad they aren’t hip enough to have bike racks (guess I would need to live in Boulder or Portland to find that on a city vehicle).

If they were really hip they wouldn’t buy vehicles at all — just cargo e-bikes.

ParticipantWhen did the ‘ask’ change? I operated all day on the idea that no hybrids were allowed. I could have had any number of those. sigh

I consider to you be almost sane (after all, you did actually go out)! I didn’t even think of trying to ride in this mess. My life isn’t worth a few silly points for some silly game. And, all my bikes are road bikes, so it really isn’t an option.
Thanks Alan. My trusty Surly Straggler gets me through almost everything. There is no way I would have taken my true road bike out today! We can all hope for better weather tomorrow or a kinder “find this” item.

2/18/21 – full electric car (no hybrids)
In addition to not being tuned into cars, I don’t SEE very well…. (Glaucoma since age 26 – so when I don’t say hi to you on the trail it’s 150% because I can’t see that you’re my friend rather than a random cyclist. Say hi first! My ears are pretty good – I’ve recognized a number of my cycling buddies by voice!) Oh and today I knew the glasses would also be meh….
Sooooo I posted something to my neighborhood listserv asking if anyone know of any electric cars in the hood. 2 neighbors came through with 3 cars. I found 1. After that I only looked at what kinda car if it had a rack. I think people probably removed their bike racks for the snow forecast.
But this is a Kia Niro EV!

I posted to mine too and … crickets. The one neighbor who used to have an electric car gave it up and went back to Subaru. The other neighbor who has a Tesla is away. Probably someplace warm.

2/18/21 – Full Electric Car (no Hybrids)
I’m putting this here for now–just a Tesla, no bike rack–because my finding this one was already a contender for the Last Mile Prize. But I may edit it in the morning if I can find something better. This is the third time we’ve been asked to find a car. I have lived a car-free lifestyle for years now, and literally cannot recognize any car other than a VW Beetle or a Corvette by sight. (As witnessed by the fact that drevil tells me the first photo I uploaded wasn’t a Tesla, so I had to try again.) So car hunts are challenging at the best of times–I’m having to get close enough to each car to read the name of it, then look it up on my phone. And the day when I’m having to go out just after midnight, that sort of behavior is particularly likely to catch the attention of security guards. I was stopped by two of them tonight, and actually warned off the premises by one of the two.

I sympathize with you. I do not have a car free lifestyle but I just don’t pay much attention to them unless they’re in my lane and trying to kill me. So trying to figure out where to find an electric car, compounded by weather, was a FAIL for me. I just went out again to see if I could locate any at the charging stations in my area and again, nada. While out, I observed that many, many streets are still not plowed in Reston but people are getting out driving and slipping and sliding, so the safer course was to come home. So why do I feel like such a loser?

Happy to provide your viewing and photography pleasure. I think you have the best riding partner EV-AH (but then so do I)
And yes, to others who might inquire, I did indeed make that suet for the birds. I see no reason why excess bacon grease should be wasted…and there’s only so much I can put in my arteries. So if you’re thinking of harvesting birds in my neighborhood, they are definitely NOT kosher or halal. They’ve been LOVING the bacon.

1/17/21 – Bird House or Bird Bath
I decided to stop by and see my brother on the way home from my ride. I know they have some bird feeders (but most of the time, they just toss food on the ground). I saw two Blue Jays and one Woodpecker, but they were eating off the ground, so I didn’t take a picture of them.

That is a hilarious feeder! Reminds me of Sylvester lying down with his mouth open obscured by something that was supposed to induce Tweety to go inside.

ParticipantProbably my favorite so far of the LOVE sculptures I’ve visited.
Guess what it incorporates in the design? And yes, it’s right along the W&OD Trail in Leesburg, where the trail crosses Harrison St.

This is at the Charles Will memorial park in Del Ray on Dewitt Ave. There are a few dozen birdhouses in the trees here but someone was mowing (why?) and no birds around.

Mowing – why? I often ask those questions…the only thing I can guess is, “We have a contract so we do it!” Bureaucracy has a hard time turning anything off. Witness all the overbuilding of office space when clearly the planet has changed in the need for same.

When I first arrived there was a beautiful bluebird on the suet feeder, but his photo didn’t show due to contrast. I was at a distinct disadvantage being 12 feet below them. But I looked at sun angle and repositioned and waited. Finally some LBJ’s (little brown jobs) ventured nearer. Wouldn’t you know it, they were camera shy? But I took this terrible photo anyway, and that little fluffy bit at the right of the feeder is the bird.

ParticipantSo many beautiful murals to choose from today at Dewey Park and along the way. This one is my submission, but to see others, you can look at my strava photos.
Thanks to those of you who have posted your photos of the murals – they fueled my desire to see these in person. LOVE these birds although I think the one on the right is trying to get on my bike!

ParticipantViers Mill in Rock Creek Park. Sadly, the MoCo parks have apparently not returned porta-potties to their parks so this was a very quick stop and photo and ride!

Participant2/16/21 – Fat Tuesday – Crown or Mask with eyeholes
Did the multi-modal thing to go up to Dewey Park in MD and see those amazing murals – thanks to all who have shown them off in this and other threads. Rode through Bethesda downtown thinking it would be easy to find a crown. My fallback was the Starbucks lady. But my riding partner needed to get back quicker than I so she did the Starbucks lady just in case. I gave in and went into see a bartender at World of Beer to take a photo of a Corona. She laughed at my request and thought it was a great game (everyone loves this game when you explain it!). As I came out, Lefty Laura pointed across the street — there was a Smoothie King – with crown on the logo. But it wasn’t as pretty as my Corona bottle so here it is.
