I knew you’d brought her in your bike trailer. I love that you do that.

I brought Pinky in my bike trailer once (awhile back cuz 6 years ago she died & sent us a cat) and you shoulda seen her reaction when she realized I wanted her to get into the trailer! She was like this dainty lady saying ” You want me to do WHAT?”

But fast forward to maybe a half hour later & we’re riding by a woman walking a coupla dogs on Military Rd….. I looked back cuz no barking, and she always barked at strange dogs unless they were special somehow. And there she was sitting in the trailer with her head held high like she thought she pooped vanilla ice cream & was above barking at those dogs [emoji16]

The imagery here, Nadine, almost made me spit out my coffee. You’re hilarious. For those of you who are playing this weekend, I’m out of the running so you may yet win the prize! I got hit by a car on Friday and while I’m super sore and whiny, I’m counting my blessings because it could have been so much worse. Getting back on a bike is NOT in my cross check for at least ten days to 2 weeks. So get out there for that fabulous action shot with bike today!

@kbikeva thanks for working with Friends of WOD. Any idea what became of the bench that used to be on the west side of the PB bridge which the Babes on Bikes donated? Any idea whom to ask?

The translation of this noun is so close to the English word that I figure I can use it for the game!

there are not many bike shops here, but one not too far from the house is called Desert Fox Cyclery. I went in to see if they had any female mechanics, but this is what I found. Super nice people!

    Thanks – I stand corrected

I only mention it because we (Friends of the W&OD and trail management) are working SO. HARD. to try to get people to be courteous on the trail and the signs were part 1 of the campaign. If everyone could remember (and practice) what they learned in kindergarten, we’d all be safer.

And I’m happy you cited courtesy as a philosophy! And … Pete Beers forever!

    3/12/23 Dancer

I was lucky enough to see some young Tigua dance troupe members rehearsing the Buffalo dance. The boys wear the buffalo headdress carrying shakers, and the representation of a spear. The girls carry ears of corn. It’s fun to see that underneath at all, they are regular teenagers wearing Nikes and carrying cell phones in their pockets. Lol

    310/23- philosophy

I opted for BIKEY philosophy! I really wanted to share Pete’s, but this is social media after all so I’ll go with Waba’s:

    1e4ff07e37cf552ff49841001d31459a.jpg

The sign on the left says “BE CURTEOUS” and is legible in the photo but of course not on the forum.

    So Waba’s trail philosophy is:
“Be courteous – share the trail so everyone feels safe.” [emoji177][emoji2186][emoji2191][emoji1395][emoji125]*🦼*🦽*🦼*🦯[emoji2211][emoji1632][emoji1360][emoji1360][emoji1360]

Fwiw, my other choice, Pete Beers’ philosophy is “WE SHOULD GO FOR A BIKE RIDE!” But he was totally into the sharing thing too. [emoji177]

Nadine, those aren’t WABA signs. They’re part of a Campaign for Courtesy by NOVA Parks on the W&OD. I’m sure WABA has the same philosophy, but these happen to not belong to them.

    3/10/23 Philosophy

In this heavily Roman Catholic city, it is lovely that this Buddhist temple sits in the middle of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) campus. Called a Lahkhang, it is a gift from the Kingdom of Bhutan to the people of the United States with the stipulation that it would be placed at UTEP, whose campus architecture was modeled after Bhutanese fortresses in the Himalayas. Buddhism is a philosophy that embraces unity among peoples of different backgrounds — so this is especially appropriate in its location.

It serves as a cultural center. I’ll have to go back on a day that it is open to see inside. I hear that it is stunning.

    3/10/23 Dancing Alligators

This sculpture on San Jacinto plaza in El Paso is a celebration of the live alligators that used to be in a tank on the Plaza. Originally introduced in the 1880s, they were removed to a zoo in 1974 for humane reasons. Called “Los Lagartos “ (the alligators), the sculpture is a fountain that is turned on in the summer.

    3/823 Sparrow

The black throated sparrow is migratory through El Paso. I am not sure this is one of them, but it definitely has a black throat and was very small, like the house sparrows we see in Virginia.
