ParticipantI just read the title of this thread and imagined that the NPS had just hired one poor sap whose only job is to clean up the National Mall.

ParticipantAgree with rcannon – biking to Nats games is a great way to go, and the bike valet is awesome. I usually tip the two guys $1-2/bike. The valet is on the east side of the ballpark, near N St. and 1st St. SE.
Maine Ave/Water St. from the Fish Market to about 7th is kind of a mess right now due to construction. If you’re brave you can take the lane on Maine, but I’d recommend avoiding it Maine and M St altogether on a game day. Here are a few ways I’d do it:
Carefully take the sidewalk on Maine, then hang a left on 7th to the I St. bike lanes.
Or, take the Case Bridge switchback-y path from the Hains Point Park Service lot. Ride on the sidewalk for a couple blocks to get to I.
Avoid the whole mess by taking the long scenic route via the Mall.

ParticipantI’d recommend Norris House – right off the W&OD, covered/locked bike parking in back, and walking distance to downtown. Yummy breakfasts!

ParticipantTraffic stacked up on the 15th St. Cycletrack on Friday afternoon.

ParticipantCould it be done in the D.C. area? Or how close could you get?

ParticipantBeware the Northeast branch of the Anacostia Trail – looks like the trail is very flooded near where it passes under the CSX tracks…

ParticipantDanB, sorry to miss you at the East Falls Church Metro pitstop! We were huddled near the Metro station entrance to stay dry. Attendance was a little, uh, light, so we still have plenty of the “I Bike to Metro and Metro to Work” t-shirts – DM me if you want one.

ParticipantVery cool. It’d be great if Strava could make my phone buzz in-real-time when a friend is nearby so I can say hello!

ParticipantI agree with Dave – riding on Penn. Ave. SE at rush hour is not fun.
Justin Antos
ParticipantGood route. 4th St. SE is one-way south, but 4th St. SW is two-way.
Justin Antos
ParticipantShould be a nice ride! About 30 minutes sounds right, and I agree that 4th St. SW > Penn Ave. Cycletrack > 15th St. Cycletrack is the best. How were you planning to get to 4th St. SW – which bridge to cross the Anacostia?

ParticipantIt’s faster than walking
It’s free
There’s no traffic ever
There’s unlimited free parking pretty much everywhere
I simply don’t have time to travel any other way!Justin Antos

You all have families? Huh. I thought you arrived by stork.
