ParticipantThanks all! W&OD was all clear from Broad St/Leesburg Pike eastbound to Custis turnoff. Mostly dry – a bunch of wet spots but nothing frozen around 7pm. Broad St. wooden bridge a little slushy on one side, but overall no problems.
AM commuters, watch for black ice if it gets below freezing tonight.

ParticipantI’m planning on using the W&OD out to West Falls Church tonight – think it’ll be melted enough by then for smooth tires?
Thanks for the help W&OD riders!!

ParticipantThe headline might’ve been “Racing’s Road Forward” for a bit more accuracy (and added awesome alliteration!) — but other than that, I thought it was a fun sports article and a great use of the online medium.

There should also probably be an award for most sleaze rides, if that hasn’t already been proposed.

What makes a ride even more sleazy is when the short ride was also the only ride for that day – i.e. you just did it for the 10 point bonus. I can’t tell if that’s what the SQL statement is showing? Is there a way to make the Sleaze Leaderboard the most “days where Points < 12?"

BTW, I applied some updates to my data mining site. I will start working on weather integration next.
This is great stuff!!

ParticipantThumbs-up to the I Street route; it now has bike lanes all the way from Maine to New Jersey (ha!) and some nice green paint for bikes crossing S. Capitol. Connect with K St SE and you can even roll through the new Canal Park.
I agree with Dave – avoid M at rush hour.
Good luck!!

ParticipantNice! A couple other ideas for data-mining if you feel inspired!
-The opposite of the weekender (weekday warrior?)
-Earliest Bird: most miles/rides ridden before dawn (after midnight)
-Latest Owl: most miles/rides ridden after sunset (before midnight)February 6, 2013 at 8:01 pm in reply to: How many miles are each of you commuting to and from work and how long does it take? #961353Justin Antos
Participant3.2 miles and 15 minutes each way, if I go directly.

ParticipantI commute between Chinatown and Capitol Hill, sometimes through Stanton Park. In the mornings I take East Capitol westbound through the Capitol Grounds and pick up the PA Ave cycletrack at the bottom of the hill. Mass. Ave. at rush hour can be a little busy, and the left turn from Mass. Ave to E Street can be tough, so I swing around it.
In the evenings though, no left turn at Union Station is required, so I often take E St NW > Mass. Ave around Union Station > Stanton Park > Mass. Ave > Lincoln Park.
4th and 6th streets are a pair of north-south bike lanes at Stanton Park, and they can easily take you to/from the bike lanes on East Capitol to go east-west.
All in all, that part of Capitol Hill is very bike-friendly – you just might feel more comfortable avoiding Mass. Ave. at rush hour. Good luck!

ParticipantSpurred on by Freezing Saddles, January was my highest mileage month… ever. In the winter I’m normally at just a few hundred; last month was three times that. This competition is definitely inspiring me to get off my duff and outside, even in the dark and cold. Well, that, plus toe-warmers and humongous down mittens.
I’ve discovered how peaceful Hains Point can be on a cold still night, how to add a view of the Anacostia River to my commute, and how to get across the Chain Bridge. The best silver lining is that I’m wearing out my old bike more quickly, hastening my excuse to get that shiny new touring bike I’ve been dreaming about for months.

ParticipantI get pretty bored after a few laps on Hains Point – I can’t really imagine doing 50 or 60, wow.

ParticipantWOah…. is this is a double-century, using only Hains Point and Capital Crescent ??? http://app.strava.com/activities/37111794
Has anyone seen him out and about?
