The ramps to the temporary bride on Four Mile Run have been paved. It looked like about a quarter of the railing was still remaining installation. The bridge has caution tape up at the moment. Didn’t see anything that would prevent opening once the rest of the railing is up.

The thought occurred to me today that instead of building a temporary boardwalk that it would have been cool to build out the enbankement and realign the trail here to remove the sharp curve and reduce the grade at the intersection with the ramp to Route 1. I seem to recall Steve O trying to get the County to expand the scope when this piece of 4MR trail was rebuilt to move 20 feet east and improve this intersection.

I snuck through last night. Looked like about 25% of the railing remaining to be installed. There’s currently a gap between the trail and the bridge which you can see in Steve’s second picture. On the north end, the connection to the bridge hasn’t been build yet. There’s a bit of a gap and elevation change still. As far as detours go, this looks pretty nice. It’s very wide. Looking forward to this opening since the current detour is in pretty rough shape. The asphalt patches installed in the tree boxes on Route 1 have all sunk significantly.

This looks very nice. Not sure when it will be officially open.

Checking in to the Team 3 thread, mostly just to lodge complaints about Jeff.

I know what Strava art is, but what are Danger Pandas, Wigglebillies? Asking for a friend.

Wigglebillies were created by Mr. Wigglebilly himself. They prove that the silliest distance between two points is a wiggled line. The steps to perform a wigglebilly are as follows:
    1. Choose a destination.
    2. Get on your bike.
    3. Turn as many times as possible
    4. Arrive at your destination

Here’s an example of a wigglebilly stolen from the Strava of Mr. Wigglebilly himself:

YES! But you’ll have trouble being as cute as Komorebi while doing it.

It tensions the chain. It’s pushing down on the chain in that configuration.

Thanks for the info. I added some Surly Tuggnuts to my singlespeed last year to keep my chain tensioned after I not so great experience with one of the wheel notes sliding forward while turning through a busy intersection.

Looks sweet. What does the little flywheel thing do? I haven’t seen one on a single speed before.

Enjoying this contest already. I got out of the habit of riding the single speed last year because of some neck issues. Been having fun riding it again the past two days.

Picture of an “ICED” sticker graffiti tag that’s on my route to the Potomac Yard trail. Not sure if this guy was intending for his tag to look like a PeePee.

BTW, anyone know why my photos are sideways?

Did you take it with an iPhone? The Forum doesn’t play very nice with the data for an iPhone picture that indicates the orientation of the photo. I started taking all of my pictures with the volume buttons towards the ground to avoid having to fix things for the forum (and a few other places). I’ve found that opening the picture up from photos by right clicking and choosing “Open With Preview” and then just clicking save will fix the orientation for uploads to the forum.

This is 225 Reinekers Lane, Alexandria, Va . In the early 90s this was the home of the DC area offices of A.T. Kearney, a renowned global consulting firm – the shipper side RR practice (which advised companies on how to reduce their rail freight bills through clever negotiating tactics) was at that location.

“Ken, I told the other principals that you add value to our rail practice, but this other partner said it was too hard to get you billable hours and they listened to him. Perhaps management consulting is not your thing. Plus we have to cut back as part of the EDS merger. We will give you a very good reference”

Went out to take a picture of the fire station down the block but when I hopped on my bike and crossed the street there was a fireplace staring through me from the window of the Notch 8 apartment building. I made my get away before they called security on the guy taking pictures of their lobby through the window.

I’ve thrown it in the tub before. Depending on your tub size, this can be a bit awkward.

Something that a lot of folks do is buy a 1 gallon sprayer which will give you a small amount of water pressure to knock the crud off.

I usually clean my bikes in my apartment on top of the tile floor in the kitchen and Use Muc-Off and a paper towel. Haven’t had any issues with rust in the 6 years that I’ve biked during the winter here.

I’m planning on going with a few of the MVT youngsters. We haven’t made a detailed plan on where to meet yet.
