1/1/23 – Fire
I was stopping to take this picture when I hear someone call out my name. It was some Babes and Babe Magnets. I snapped the picture then rode with them for a bit.

This fire station is down the street from my house. On the days leading up to Christmas every year they put lights all over one of their engines and escort Santa down every neighborhood road.

Took a quick evening ride to the West Springfield Fire Station. I was a bit disappointed that it only says fire in very small letters on the main sign.

Built in 1894, the Cairo was Washington DC’s highest building at 164 feet. At the time, none of the fire-fighting equipment in DC could not reach to the upper floors of the building. The concern about a fire in the skyscraper lead to Congress passing the Height of Buildings Act of 1899, limiting the maximum height of buildings in DC to 130 ft.
Thank you for the submission educating on DC history!

Went out to take a picture of the fire station down the block but when I hopped on my bike and crossed the street there was a fireplace staring through me from the window of the Notch 8 apartment building. I made my get away before they called security on the guy taking pictures of their lobby through the window.

Judd, if you get arrested trying to take a picture for this prize, you cannot hold Janet and me accountable.
