Here’s a local spot — American Sardine Bar.

Like CBGanimal, I too knew exactly where I was going to go. Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens!
This is just the exterior portion abutting South St. I haven’t been on the inside yet, but it’s supposed to be really cool! It’s the work of one artist, Isaiah Zagar, and he’s made a bunch of other murals throughout South Philly. If you look closely, you can see a couple different bike wheels embedded in the wall. Here’s a higher res image.

2/22/21 – Purple House
I agree with others that what looks purple in real life doesn’t necessarily look so purple once you’re looking at the photo later.
I had a much more colorful house, but I wasn’t sure sure if it was quite purple enough, and it was edging towards pink. My photo lopped off the second floor, but this house looks like your prototypical Philly rowhouse, but with much prettier window boxes than most.

2/21/21 – the round Peace symbol or the word “peace” (in any language)
Nice and simple!
Primary architect was David Linquist. This sculpture was made less than a decade after the symbol was created!

2/20/21 – Overhead Picture from “Such Great Heights” (+1 point for including biker)
I figured one of the bridges over the Schuylkill would be a good vantage point for this — I could find someone riding along the SRT. However, I didn’t realize that section (at least) wasn’t plowed, so bikes were a little hard to come by. Fortunately, I found a rider passing the “Trail Closed” sign.
I couldn’t do anything as cool with the shadows as the provided image, but I figure this is decent enough.

2/19/21 – Planet(s) – likeness or word
Perhaps I’ve misinterpreted the task, and it needs to be one of the nine planets in our solar system, and not a generic “planet”. For now at least, here’s the word “planet”:
I wish the forum supported strikethough text, it’d be helpful. Now, it looks like the word “planet” is confirmed acceptable as well.

However, I couldn’t find a way to delete the Prius from my post, so I deleted the post and made a new post with the Tesla.
I think I’ve seen someone else mention this difficulty. If you’re just using the web UI (i.e. not Tapatalk), you can “Go advanced”, then “Manage Attachments”. That’ll open up a new tab, and at the bottom, you should see thumbnails of the images you’ve attached.

Click the “X” on the upper right hand corner, then “Done”, and you’ll be returned to your original tab. That should remove the old, now-unused attached images. All you need to do then is “Save changes”. Hooray for unintuitive user experiences!

I could swear that when I first read today’s challenge it said no Teslas, and so I went out this morning hunting for the BMW i3 that used to live on my street (but wasn’t there – I think they’ve traded it in for a different car). Now I see lots of people posting Tesla pics, and the rules indeed allow Teslas. Huh. Maybe I was half asleep when I read it?
No idea about the original challenge. I had a vague recollection of no rentals allowed for this, but who knows?
I do know that I’ve dreamed about the scavenger hunt when I’ve been able to catch the next day’s task before bed. Pretty sure I ran into Rimas and someone else while looking for something (don’t remember what) — truly the stuff of pure fantasy.

2/18/21 – Full Electric Car (no Hybrids)
This was a rough one with the current snowfall, as I’m sure you all experienced. I was scared off by the signs on the shared residential parking garages, and I’m sure most of the “nice” cars are parked in the garages of expensive houses in Center City (I didn’t even contemplate trying to make it out to the burbs). I wanted to find a Fisker Karma that I’ve seen twice, but I’m sure that’s hidden away somewhere. More importantly, apparently it’s a hybrid, which I didn’t even know until now.

I covered 6+ miles (slowly), and all I found was a Tesla and a Chevy Volt. Obviously, I’m claiming the latter right now. I might head back out depending on conditions and look for a bike rack equipped one.
UPDATE: just realized that the Volt is a hybrid, but the Bolt is a full EV — guess I’m going back to the Tesla
cvcalhoun wrote:…literally cannot recognize any car other than a VW Beetle or a Corvette by sightJust a heads up, I’m pretty sure your pic is of a Toyota Prius of some type (not a Tesla), and I don’t think they have any fully-electric models, i.e. your find isn’t worth any points.

What happened to the Poggio links in the pointless menu? The link still seems to work https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/generic/poggio-indiv so perhaps its just a bug in the website? Anyone else have trouble finding it?
I’d assume it was removed because it doesn’t appear that anyone was sponsoring it this year. I don’t see it in the Pointless Prize thread. If you look at the diff for this recent PR, that’s confirmed.
spfrantz wrote:I have added this year’s new hashtagged pointless prizes and removed a few that are 1) not sponsored and 2) not attracting participation this year. Nearly all of the new prizes can be accomplished with the /pointless/hashtag view. But I’m sure no one would object to you sponsoring it, so beat out Chadd Westhoff and claim what’s rightfully yours!
