ParticipantWon’t be able to make this, big bummer because I could totally chow down on some Amsterdam Falafel.

ParticipantIf everyone hasn’t yet been convinced by rcannon100 and Sunyata’s proselytizing, let me add my voice (although too late for you to make it to DCCX this year). I was out there both days this past weekend, and had a great time racing and just hanging out. I saw so many people that I’ve met over the past year from the bike DC community, and met some people in person that I’ve only interacted with online here too. There are experienced racers like Sunyata and rcannon100, but also cross noobs like me, PeteD, good and evil Steves all competing. I met BrettL and brclose repping Proteus yesterday, and saw MrTinDC and Emm out there supporting and watching. Drevil was there taking some great photos. You have juniors racing, younger kids rolling around on strider bikes (and maybe doing the lil Belgians). I saw dasgeh and her family rolling deep, and other people from Freezing Saddles and various shops (shout out to Team Bikenetic for letting me squat in their area). It all just made me feel really lucky to have come across this community. Also, I may have seen/talked to you but didn’t drop your name here, in which case my bad (but you can maintain a little more internet privacy).

Sigh.
But, again, Google Maps seems to have my location perfectly. Is it not using location services based on the same hardware?
Not sure exactly how the Google location services work, but in addition to GPS, it might also be using cell towers or WIFI networks (or even individual access points) to triangulate your location.

ParticipantI’ve stopped actually using my phone or cycling computer to record rides. I much prefer the quality of a handcrafted, artisanal GPX file. It’s simpler and less wear-and-tear on your bikes to just upload one of those to Strava. It might not be cheaper (have to pay a master craftsman to build them for me), but ultimately I think it’s a better solution for me than actually riding.

It was agreed this morning that WTFCC should move back to the Eads St. Whole Foods on Thursdays from here out.
The Stand has basically abandoned us at the CC waterpark, and the weather is endlessly crappy, so it makes sense. Are you serious? I’ve been at the Whole Foods every Thursday morning by myself and haven’t seen anyone for the past month or two. I thought WTFCC stood for Whole Thursday Foods.

ParticipantI finally got my act together and registered for Hyattsville CX this Sunday. Who else is racing (or coming out to watch me make a fool of myself)?
Disclaimer: noob race is at 8:15am

These are awesome. Thank you. It would be fun to have awards for the lanes – like most delicious (access to best food), most comfortable (would ride in with a kid), least comfortable (Lee Hwy)
Did you ride the 1 block bike lane on wb Lee before Safeway?
No, we were eastbound on that section (not sure if there’s a bike lane in that direction).

Quote:we hoped that since we weren’t getting any actual hurricane weather, that we’d be ok for tonight, but unfortunately mother nature had different plans…Fridays at the fountain is cancelled for tonight. But stay tuned tomorrow for an exciting announcement about the last 6 events of the series!
Sorry everyone – hope to see you all for some non-rainy fun next week!

ParticipantI just realized I have another commitment and won’t be able to make it, have fun if it doesn’t rain.

ParticipantDo people still go to these? Been a month or two since I’ve been it feels like. Planning on being there unless the weather looks really bad.

ParticipantNot doing this ride, but I’ll contribute. I have panniers but never use them because I don’t want to have a rack on any of my bikes semi-permanently. Racks = not ELITE. If I’m doing something where I’m wearing a jersey, I can generally fit whatever I need in the jersey pockets. The default option is a backpack, and then I just deal with the back sweat. However, I recently acquired a fanny pack (ELITE) for the in-between type things where I don’t want to wear a jersey, but don’t need as much volume as a backpack. I have a handlebar bag, but I’m not really a fan because I don’t like leaving things on the bike when locked up somewhere, and removing/attaching the one I have is a pain. U-lock in the belt or backpack (if I’m wearing a jersey, it’s not the type of ride where I expect to lock my bike up).

It’s a good idea not only on the trail but also on a street. I don’t trust that an extended left arm will dissuade drivers from attempting to pass on my left.
I thought LOTM’s question was more of a joke than a serious question. His point was about needing to look before signaling so you don’t whack someone with your arm during the act of signaling itself. I think it’s reasonable to signal, then check, and finally turn.

ParticipantI’d assume Lawyers is the worst part. You can definitely take Hunter Station (from the W&OD to Lawyers) to shave off a little bit of mileage, I’ve never had any problems there (during my morning commute). After that, I have no experience riding down there.
More straightforward, but definitely longer, probably slower and sunnier would be the Fairfax County Parkway trail.

ParticipantI rode this bike around the parking lot yesterday. I wish I was a little bit taller (and a baller, and many other things).
