What’s the max number of bikes allowed on a single metro car?

Assuming the trail conditions aren’t great tomorrow, bikedavid and I may set up a Freezing Saddles conference on the metro tomorrow.

Swung by The Bike Lane after work today for a beer and a coffee because I’m all about efficiency. I happened to run into bikedavid there as well. The In The Black IPA was pretty good (tasted like beer, not too hoppy) and also matched my nitro coffee. Wondering if I should’ve gotten the nitro porter instead.

I gave in and took the metro today. Here’s an orange bike on the silver line:

I have a reverse commute (from Ballston to Wiehle-Reston), and I was in the system from 8:15 until 8:50 or so. The biggest pain was taking the elevator down from the street because there were a lot of other people doing the same (without bikes). I didn’t see any other bikes. There did seem to be more people on the train than there have been when I’ve ridden at similar times in the past, and I’m wondering if that’s due to the snow. Might do this again on my evening commute, depending on how much the trail (or maybe roads) clear up.

Everybody should up for this at least to say hello. Play your cards ride and Komorebi might let you use the Friends of Mount Vernon Trail’s brand new 36″ Snow Plow: The Snow Pusher, a tool which will OBLITERATE SNOW.

Does the snow pusher just mount to drevil’s ski-bike? He just needs to ride down the MVT and plow it, and any remaining snow will be melted by the heat emanating from his rear wheel and supercharged drivetrain.

I believe I will head over to Lazy Mike’s for pancakes, perhaps arriving 8-8:15. Anyone?

Word on the street is that they’re opening at 9 tomorrow, FYI.

Glad to hear a little bit about all of you, and hoping we all have an injury-free, riding-heavy, rest of the winter. @championtier, we should definitely try to do something when you’re in the country. I didn’t realize you were in Belgium, that’s awesome! Have you been to any cross races, participating or just watching? @filipe, enjoy Portugal while you’re there. I still need to sleaze out in the snow over here.

Re: main forum of communication, I’m fine with Strava, email, this, Facebook, whatever. @Filipe, Strava sounds good to me. I’ll start a ride planning post over there, and see if I can get together some names.

Re: missing members, I used Strava’s invite to club feature (via email) to all of you on Friday, but I’m not sure what that looks like on your end (or how likely it is to be blocked or filtered by your email provider). I’m going to email jonkislin and Davis_S tonight to see what’s up with them, I haven’t heard anything or seen much activity on Strava from them. The other eight of us have joined the Strava club, and within a couple hours we all should be displaying on the FS leaderboards (currently it’s everyone but CCC27 who just joined).

The only issue I have is that the People > Ride Days section seems to be in a different time zone. Last night, just before 11:00 pm, it had already decided that it was today, and thus was saying that no one still had a perfect attendance record.

Leaderboard appears to be blank. When tagging, does it need to be in the title of the ride instead of just the description?

Looks like the hashtag needs to be in the ride’s name, not description (source).

I’ll try to get my act together and help out this year. I think I’ve gotten being stupid competitive in terms of raw miles out of my system. Will try and get the dev environment set up locally this week and take a peek at some of the “good first issues”.

I set some goals (most at the end of 2017, but I did add some during 2018) for this past year, and I managed to achieve most of them!

    Succeeded:

    • Ride 10k miles
    • Do a cross race
    • Do a gravel race
    • Do a Wednesday Night Spins race
    • Do the Dirty Bikeneticrit (technically a road race?)
    • Learn to trackstand
    • Top 5 FS individual mileage
    • Learn cross mount/dismount (needs work)
    • Average 40 miles per day during FS
    • Learn to ride no hands

    Failed:

    • Ride everyday (fell off the train on Cinco de Mayo I believe, didn’t worry about missing days later, and that’s probably a good thing for me mentally)
    • Learn to bunnyhop
    • Do a max mileage day (I saw a forum member’s Strava ride, and saw it on Reddit too, of a 24-hour ride done at Hains Point, 300+ miles, and wanted to try)
    • Put 200 miles on my mountain bike (was more like ten miles)
    • One century per calendar month (only happened in six months)
    • Learn cool fixed gear mount/dismount (like swinging your leg over the bars I can do like dcv, but I’m wary of dismounting and throwing the bike in front of me while clipless)

Has anyone taken their bike on the metro since this new rule went into effect? I’m trying to work up the nerve to do it myself.

No bikes allowed on the metro until Freezing Saddles is over :(.
