ParticipantWho made the segment start on Joyce? I don’t know the history of it, but seems like it’d be way nicer if it started on Ross, so you could approach it from either direction. Doing loops is going to be more of a pain, although I guess you can always go up and down Ross rather than incorporating Ridge and Military Rds. Does anyone know how trafficked Joyce is on an average weekend? Would making a u-turn on Joyce by the segment start be feasible?

The hashtag can be anywhere in the ride description
I don’t think that’s correct. Doesn’t it need to be in the ride/activity title, not the description? But I agree with the rest of your claim.

ParticipantI recently upgraded to the premium version of Strava basically for their personal heatmaps. I’m slowly trying to hit new streets (inspired by Rod Smith) but nowhere near as aggressively as this guy.
The oversight — or overstep, maybe — cost him a 20-minute drive both ways.
More explorations happen Monday, but weekday runs require a calculated course — another math problem of minutes and parking meters. To find the route, divide the applicable parking limit by an 11- or 12-minute pace.
Really? I’ve got a good idea for him.

I do not understand this statement when the map you included in the very same post shows the route to take Columbia St. around Banneker Park.
Or maybe that the road changes from Columbia to 16th at some point along the route?

Participantcvcalhoun, next year could you (assuming you continue to volunteer for this position) emphasize in the registration form that new people to the forum don’t need to create a new thread for their first post? Maybe we should have an intro for noobs thread where people are introducing themselves (as I’ve seen in the past), so we don’t have a bunch of pointless threads (acknowledging that FS involves a lot of pointless stuff).
EDIT: It’s been done!

ParticipantAlso Steve O, save the nice tires for the front, then move ’em to the rear where you don’t care about traction because you’ll just skrrt skrrt all over the place anyways

ParticipantWhat if Alan A heads out to Indiana and bounces between counties on a late-night ride? Are the devs expected to track portions of an activity in their local time and deal with the (possible) resultant time-traveling? Sounds way too complicated for my taste (and also possible wherever there are timezone boundaries).

ParticipantOnce the leaderboard’s there it doesn’t matter, and I can probably find the segment IDs from the repo between now and then, but do you have segment IDs? Would prefer to look them up by ID rather than use Strava’s poor segment search/explore feature.
(will these be my coffee rides for 2020?)

ParticipantIf Steve O doesn’t take the gp5ks, I will.

ParticipantLet me put Subby’s idea out there (again) — individual leaderboard is based solely on miles, team leaderboard is based solely on days ridden. People can determine how they want to distribute their riding based on whatever life constraints and desires they have. They can choose if they want to engage in the side bets and pointless prizes or not, and if they want to do social things or not. Personally, I’ll probably aim for a healthy balance across all of these.

ParticipantOoh this sounds cool! I’d make choice 2, 3, or 5 — with a big preference towards Ballston.

Agree with this. I have several of last year’s model and likely will not buy a new one if only the year changes. Additionally, changing color would provide a little easier identification of those participating this year, vice having last year’s still in use.
Planned obsolescence? Sad!
