Does anyone know what the “ELITE this post” button means (vs. like/dislike)?
I did some digging with the search feature and it looks like this post was the origin (at least another post claimed it was).
Also, rcannon100 is a well-noted ELITE cyclist who I’m sure can correct me if I’m misinformed.

ParticipantI know Steve O’s always trying to promote the “Bicycle Coffee Clubs, Happy Hours, Social Events, Rides & Other items of interest (DC area)” Google calendar embedded on the FS leaderboard site, which should integrate well with your Google calendar
. TBH, I didn’t really know that there were any events on the forum calendar, and I’d assume I’m not the only one.

ParticipantMy minimal bike polo experience is going to come in handy for this one — tripod here I come. But I’d be down to lose to drevil in a trackstand competition. Also, thank you for the helpful thread tags.

But regarding the rides outside of the region or area while on vacation for instance not counting….how far out is considered out the area and not counted towards an eligible freezing saddle ride?
As long as they’re outdoors, and on a bike, and within the appropriate temporal range, you’re good! There’s no geographic bounding box. If you were AlanA and there wasn’t a pandemic, you’d go to Hawaii and enjoy some balmy temps while still accruing FS mileage.

I rode across the Rt 15 bridge yesterday and it was extremely hazardous. I took the Lane w/ another cyclist and still got passed, buzzed by numerous motorists, crossing a double yellow center line, into oncoming traffic, especially on the climb up 15 on the VA side. There is no shoulder for an escape route. I bailed out as soon as possible onto St Claire Ln and the gravel backroads to Rt 15 where there is a wide shoulder. Again, I cannot safely recommend crossing Rt 15 bridge on a bike [emoji605].
Ok, what I was getting at is that crossing the bridge is tolerable, considering it’ll just be a minute or so of pain. I haven’t ridden along 15 more than just the bridge — what I was recommending was that a rider takes the first right after crossing into VA, followed by a quick left onto Furnace Mountain. That’s a nice, quiet gravel road. On the other side of the bridge, I only have experience to the C&O access point by the MARC station there.

I am confused. As if we needed another reason why 2020 sucks… The Rockland Farm Winery is located in Poolesville, MD, well away from the ferry crossing and Virginia. Why is they relevant to this? Who has the back story?
Looking at the comments on the Facebook post, it’s Rockland Farm LLC, on the VA side of the ferry, not Rocklands Farm Winery in MD. Presumably it’ll be back, it’s not like the ferry is anything new. Crossing at route 15 isn’t that bad either, IMO, and you get to ride Furnace Mountain Road.

If you’re still looking for a trunk rack, I have a Thule you can have. It’s pretty adjustable and worked for Subaru Impreza, Honda Fit, and a Subaru Crosstrek. Was able to get it to work with a couple of odd mountain bike designs, but honestly no idea on that Bridge Club.
It’s in good shape but we got hitch racks and haven’t looked back. PM me if interested. Free if you pick up, or I would meet somewhere inside the beltway in VA.
I think jrenaut’s looking for a rack that mounts to the rear of the bike to carry stuff on the bike, rather than carry bikes on the car. I really wish there were separate terms for these two items, it makes searching listings hard.

ParticipantWhy are they called friends? Slacker seems a much more appropriate term.
