ParticipantCan you really get a new Raleigh or All-City steel bike for a grand?

ParticipantMy highlight for the year was discovering this Forum and finally joining after lurking around for a few months.

ParticipantAie! Heal quickly. I’d be happy to keep one of your bikes mobile until you are all healed up.

On the bright note, the best ride home last week was during the Christmas Tree, Holiday Tree or whatever it’s called, where they closed 15th from Treasury down to Constitution, but allowed bikes. I felt so free flying down 15th.
Darn, I avoided going up 15th on Thursday night. Must remember for next year.

ParticipantHow do you find the willpower not to just give it to him now? Got my son a balance bike for his 2nd bday next month and it is killing me not to just see him try it out.

ParticipantYou could just read all the blogs he links to on the left. But it doesn’t matter now since he posted something new.

ParticipantI’ve been using the Seattle Sports Titan panniers for almost 2 years now. My only quibble is that a laptop don’t fit quite right since it tapers towards the bottom.

You shouldn’t have to change the cassette at the same time as the chain unless you wait too long to replace the chain.
What Sheldon Brown says about changing the chain.
If the rivet is 1/16″ past the mark, you should replace the chain, but the sprockets are probably undamaged.
If the rivet is 1/8″ past the mark, you have left it too long, and the sprockets (at least the favorite ones) will be too badly worn. If you replace a chain at the 1/8″ point, without replacing the sprockets, it may run OK and not skip, but the worn sprockets will cause the new chain to wear much faster than it should, until it catches up with the wear state of the sprockets.
If the rivet is past the 1/8″ mark, a new chain will almost certainly skip on the worn sprockets, especially the smaller ones.jopamora
ParticipantBike planner came up with the same route. I guess you could try to go West and connect with the Bethesda Trolley trail.

Now that you mention it, I can, in fact confirm that the 14th Street Bridge sighting is bona fide. I recognized you too late to say anything. Sorry.
I was incognito in my CaBi attire and still in shock that I saw two of you to be cordial.
