I have two bikes with belt drive and internally-geared hubs. I don’t expect to go back to a chain and derailleurs. I made the switch after I had taken my chain-drive bike to two different shops, once to one shop and twice to the other, and the chain was still slipping on the gears. I was also tired of ruining my (office) work pants with grease. The cleanliness of belt drive is a little exaggerated. They’re much cleaner than greasy chains, but they still get road dirt on them. Also, there may still be grease on the outside of the bottom bracket, kickstand, and other parts of the bike. You might want to check whether your bike shop will work on the drive train. A downside I’ve found is that not all bike mechanics are familiar with internal hubs. I was tempted to buy a Priority Coninuum with NuVinci hub, but I really don’t need a third bike. You might want to take a look, it’s the best price I’ve seen: https://www.prioritybicycles.com/products/continuumonyx . I have a Shimano 11-speed hub, I’ve suspected that the 8-speed would provide plenty of gears for me, but haven’t tried it, or the NuVinci.

Yup, no more error for me and the facebook button appears to be working.

I saw the “invalid redirect” error again when logging in. It could have to do with how we set up the redirects when the forum became the Washington Area Bike Forum. It shouldn’t keep anyone from accessing the forum until we get it fixed.

jrenaut, thanks for that tip, I think you might be right. I was able to find this string of code in the forum templates and complete the URL. The Facebook button is back. I got an “invalid redirect” error the first time I logged in. That worries me, but I logged out and back in, and didn’t get any error the second time.

This is the third unsuccessful attempt, that we know of, to log into a forum member’s account. As far as we know, there have been no successful attempts, and no damage done. If anyone receives a message like the one 5555624 quoted to start this thread, please forward to info@bikearlington.com. We will block the specific IP that was used in the attempt. I don’t know if it will help — many of the hackers we deal with apparently have access to all the IP addresses they need. I’ll block this one now, and do some research today into why this might be happening.

Thanks, brendan. I’ve been trying to change the graphic to include Alexandria’s Local Motion logo. I can’t understand why it won’t accept the new graphic. I’m leaving it alone for the night to think about what it should do.

Addendum: Now I see I was putting the images in the wrong directory. It’s fixed.

can we get a way around the captcha for registered members over a certain post limit?

There isn’t an automatic way to do it, as far as we know, but it can be done manually. It wouldn’t hurt to try the easy question-and-answer verification — it may not be a burden. All this time, admins have had to use reCAPTCHA to post anything, reading barely-legible letters and typing them in. THAT was a pain. We thought everyone had to do it, but it was just admins. The lack of complaints should have been a strong clue that it wasn’t working.

When I log in as myself, the “Reply with Quote” link and “Reply to Thread” button both ask me a question, which is how it’s supposed to work. I don’t know. Maybe this would be a good time to have the latest version of the software installed, and see what’s fixed and what’s broken after that.
