ParticipantI had to re read this rant a couple of times, then I realized you wrote “same place” not same “pace”. I don’t disagree with anything you day here. If you do stop at the crossings in falls church, you may also hear cursing from the driver because they expect you not to stop, and then you both are stopped waiting for the other to go. I avoid that section of the trail.

Remember that, like most things these days, canondale is just a nameplate trading on nostalgia. The company that made the brand by building bikes a couple hundred miles north of here is gone, the people who made the bikes are gone, and the company that bought the name now slaps it on the output of third party factories. Not a story unique to the bike industry.
Serious question – what bike company doesn’t do this? What company would you recommend?

Just be glad you didn’t end up in Gitmo or have traffic laws cited at you (true story).
I actually did have both of these happen to me. You aren’t allowed to have any kind of fun as a civilian in gitmo. Just walking around you get into trouble.

ParticipantDon’t forget about em3ev. I’ve bought several kits from them and am happy, but it is a DIY effort with some soldering and configuring the controller software. But, I enjoy doing that kind of maintenance work.

I went for a walk on L St today and was amazed at how many vehicles are parked in the cycletrack. Luckily (for me) my commute doesn’t take me this far into the district, but I feel bad for those who do (if anyone even takes L St). What’s the point of even having a cycletrack if there are cars parked in it on every block?
I ride L street every day and unfortunately this is true. The bike lane is just wide enough so that vehicles can park on it, not block vehicle traffic, and make it impossible for bikes to pass unless they swerve into the traffic lane. The bollards on the ends of the block have not been replaced since last spring. There was also a bollard in the middle of the lane in front if the Quincy hotel that hasn’t been replaced. I really think this cycle track makes it more dangerous for cyclists. More enforcement and replacing the bollards would help a lot.

Are folks using their commutes to get in a really tough workout?
Yes, i do. Usually Monday and Fridays I take it easy and work hard Tuesday – Thursday on the commute home. On the weekends I’ll run a half marathon from vienna, through LFP and back to vienna on the CCT. It’s also a great mt bike loop.

ParticipantI can not make these coffee clubs since they are way too early for me:-(
But, speaking of Vienna, there is a brew pub opening directly on the W&OD just west of the caboose. It’s called caboose. I will be going there often in the eveningsjnva

Many possible sightings this evening. GB heading east on the Custis, TwoWheelsDC on the Potomac Ave bridge over 66, and jnva flying up Lee Hwy from Rosslyn on the e-bike.
Probably was me you saw. The obelisk in Rosslyn makes me faster, I’ve noticed.
