Not as much as this hurts mine:
I have an ATS speed drive on one of my bikes. Not nearly as complicated as this and does the same thing!

I think the better mindset is “I will enjoy getting from A to B way more and when I get there I’ll also know I got some good exercise in. If I can do it in the same time or faster than a car check me out!“
That’s exactly right. It turns out it’s always faster for me by bike and cheaper too. Win win. Check me out!

I would rather not filter or go on the sidewalk here, but taking a place in line with the cars seems absurd.
I agree, and absurd is a good description. Might as well be comfortable in an air conditioned car if you are going to wait in traffic

ParticipantI started commuting by bike full time so that I could filter through stopped traffic downtown. It doesn’t seem that dangerous to me in city traffic. Doing it on back roads in the suburbs is different though. Definitely don’t do it there, even in arlington it’s dangerous. But filtering through stopped K street traffic – why would you wait in traffic when there is plenty of space to filter through?

ParticipantWhat’s more dangerous: a person riding one horse on the trail or a person riding a motorized bicycle that has less than one horsepower?

ParticipantI don’t mind people shoaling me. The guy at the front is more likely to get hit by a car. I just don’t get why you’d want to be that guy…

As a dedicated bell-ringer, I recently started ringing my own bell when being passed silently, just as a friendly suggestion. Thus far I’ve had about twenty passers who gave no acknowledgement, three who gave a friendly/sheepish wave, and another one who waved, but only with his middle finger.
I always “try” to ring my bell before passing buts not always possible and sometimes because I’m wearing gloves when I flick the bell ringer thing the dumb bell just doesn’t make a noise. I’ve had someone ring at me after I pass and I have waved. I wonder if that was you! Ps I didn’t give you the middle finger – that is reserved exclusively for car drivers.

ParticipantThe M street cycle track still needs a lot of work.
for example, this section is also a sidewalk:
This is just a mess:

This section looks like it’s just missing:
and my favorite, and huge pothole in front of camelot that has been there for several weeks. Maybe they want the bikes to stop?

ParticipantThe only thing worse than riding into a headwind is riding into a headwind and getting stung in the mouth by a bee.

ParticipantI would be interested to see the accident statistics from before the L and M street cycle tracks were built and after. It seems I have had more near collisions after. Mostly with pedestrians who aren’t looking out for bikes.

At the gym this morning, I overhead someone complaining about the bikes on the roads. At one point, he stated that he was glad he lived in Virginia, because with its laws, “The roads belong to the cars.” Unfortunately, I was in the shower while he was espousing this nugget, or I would have reminded him of the 3 foot law that was just passed.
Yep, I commute from virginia into DC every day on my bike and I always feel relieved after making to DC. Va drivers do think they own the road. I get honked at and run off the road way too often along with dirty looks and comments from drivers that I’m on “their” road. I rarely get that in DC.
