Unless it’s below freezing, in which case Glebe is pretty risky there where it’s always wet near the bottom.

God bless @obscurerichard for taking this on. He’s spending an incredible amount of time, night/day/weekend on all of this. I am completely swamped at work, so I have absolutely zero regrets for stepping away from this madness :) — Except that I feel bad for Richard (especially where lack of documentation etc. adds to the learning curve of the current software). A lot of external deps changed this year, though — changes to Strava authorization being particularly significant and disappearance of wunderground for weather data. So this is no small effort. And, of course, he’s doing this almost completely alone.

Any suggestion for keeping feet warm and dry when temperatures are below 30 degrees? I currently use neoprene toe covers and high viz pearl shoe covers with merino wool socks. But after 45 mins, my feet are freezing. Any help would be appreciated.

I also can’t keep warm with just shoe covers below 35°. I have two sets of boots, which both work well. One pair of fairly old Northwave Celcius boots are comfy for 25-45°. After a couple hours at 25 my feet will be chilly, but nothing too bad. They are not fully sealed (my feet wouldn’t stay dry if I stepped in a puddle) but the uppers are goretex (they kept my feet warm and dry in rain on Friday, for example).

I also have a set of Specialized Defroster boots which are good down into the teens. I am sure after a couple hours in the teens my feet are cold, but I try to avoid ling rides in those temps. The Specialized are really nice boots, but they are a bit bulkier/heavier and so I tend to default to the Northwave when temps are not extreme. I believe these are fully sealed/waterproof too, though not sure I have really tested that.

ProBikeFC probably doesn’t look for business from W&OD users; from what I understand, it’s a fairly boutique shop. Now, if you want a fancy new Factor with a custom-spec carbon build kit …

But I agree. That comment just sounds ill-informed. I don’t bike that part of the trail on the weekend, but I would definitely welcome anything that sets a precedent for widening trails. And lights would be a huge improvement there. This has to be one of the worst sections for trail ninjas.

I think it’ll be a great improvement to the trail.

For those looking for nose/mouth covering that still allows for breathing, this is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UATJ5Y/ I can’t recommend it enough if you, like me, prefer to keep your face warm in freezing temps.

+1 — sounds like a great location. I’d definitely use it.

Mechanics gloves also work if you don’t like latex. I keep a pair in my pack in winter.

I like Mechanics gloves too. They’re great summer gloves. Those would be good for me down to about 55º :) I guess we’re all wired up differently!

Bonus points if shaving legs. This is a cycling forum after all.

Subby is playing BAFS this year, got sucked in by the mileage cap.

Yeah, he just told me this AM. I am shocked! He must have misread that as a daily-mileage minimum.

Ah, by “encourages daily riding” you meant “encourages lots of sleaze rides.”

Sure, yes, daily sleaze rides. Emphasis shifts to riding every day as opposed to riding for any duration or distance. I assume the number was chosen due to being a median distance for the competitors, but I have no idea.

But are any of us discussing this even playing this game? :-). I’m certainly not, and would be surprised if Subby were to come back to this again.

It encourages daily riding by limiting many of us to three days of contribution a week? Interesting theory.

100 miles, but 10 points per day. It definitely encourages daily riding, yes.

    In case this isn’t clear.

    3 days, 100 miles = 130 points
    7 days 100 miles = 170 points

To be fair, I don’t think anything has ever actually been decided by people discussing on the forum. Someone just makes an executive decision and some people complain and then everyone moves on.

While I think this is a bold move, Im glad someone is taking the reins here. And I’m curious to see how this rule plays out. There are tons of pointless prizes that can reward miles in a cap-free way. This team contribution cap seems to strongly encourage daily riding. Seems to be in the spirit of the game.

I’ve been thinking of putting a “Drafting Welcome” sign on my back on my daily e-bike commute. Would that go over well do you think?

Yeah, I suspect it would. Certainly I’d love it!

Sounds like TwoWheels is doing something wrong!

I had the pleasure of drafting a guy yesterday who was wearing jeans and loafers on the W&OD and cruising at 25mph, until he turned off just before Vienna. That’s a nice drafting speed; I love it when I can benefit from all that free wattage too.
