Don’t be such a negative nancy! Your morning theme song brought to you by John Hiatt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aYxMuLb3h8.

ParticipantWas AMAZING! Undoubtedly because of the brand new bike shorts my hubby bought me that fit perfectly. Also, in part due to the fact that I finally got on a road bike today! What.was.I.waiting.for?!!? I was so fast like lightning that I took the long (ish) way and still made it with plenty of time! No, seriously, I was all, “swoosh, swoosh, WHEEEEEE!” And then I was all, “On your left!” I’ve claimed the Cannondale through eminent domain.
On a related note – Stay tuned to the classifieds page for a super cheap, blinged out Fugi hybrid. It might make good wall art for those of you who are in to that sort of thing? Or you could take it to the scrap metal place and get, like, $3 for it. I’m keeping the extra tubes for my scrapbook.

ParticipantSaw 1/8th not one, not two, but THREE times this morning during various BTWD riding and swag-collecting! I can finally post in this thread! In fact, it was great to see all of today. It’s so nice to feel like a part of a really fun-loving, energetic community! And I wasn’t hungover at ALL after last night! Which was admittedly the best part!

So wish I could have been there with you all – it’s killing me to be away from home this week! Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for organizing, and Happy Bike to Work Day, everyone!
Will be missing all the fun rides with friends and BTWD swag, but hope to see ya’ll out on the roads and trails. Tour de Fat is coming up too!
We missed you too! Looking forward to having you back!

ParticipantSitting outside in sunny weather anxious to walk the 2 blocks to HH! I think the rain will leave us alone. See you soon!

ParticipantThe day has finally come! I was worried it wouldn’t ever make it but, happily, it is TTHH! Looking forward to seeing all of you in Westover tonight. TwoWheelsDC and I have been working tirelessly this week… on our basement, repairing the aftermath of flooding from Sandy last year. So we really don’t have any fun planned other than showing up and writing out name tags, which I still have to pick up. Basically, we are likely to set the low bar for organization given Kathy’s amazing hostessing abilities so don’t expect too much! The manager is our neighbor, however, so he’s promised to take good care of us!
Given the weather report, it’s possible we’ll be inside rather than on the patio, so be sure you stroll in if you don’t see us immediately when you ride up! Meanwhile, I’m praying to the sun god for clear skies! Your soundtrack for the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egVKYlvB6O4

ParticipantTomorrow’s my first BTWD and I’m super excited. Mostly because I like free stuff… But also because I love seeing everyone out on the trails! The more I get into the forum, the more I find myself staring people down as I pass them, hoping I can post to the “sighting” thread! Haven’t had a chance yet but tomorrow it’s ON!

So, it’s starting to sound like what’s needed here is something out of a 50’s or 60’s B-movie, where the contestants all line up at the bottom of the hill, one foot down, waiting for Honeybadger6 to wave a scarf to signal the start, and then everyone races up the hill to the curb cut for the church parking lot.
What could possibly go wrong? It will not be a dropped scarf, it will be the sound of a beer cracking open that signals the start of the race!

In that case, I WIN! I’ll be taking that to the bank…

ParticipantJust for the record, SBG and screwed-by-vdot guy are two different dudes. I’ve ridden past both of them and, while both are quite friendly, at least SBVG is kind enough to stay out of the path of cyclists/walkers/runners/etc… making me a bit more compassionate. That and I kinda wanted to live in his fort, just to see what it was like!

I’ve always meant to get to the beer garden there, but I’ll be out in Leesburg most of the day for work and probably won’t make it back in time. The one day I have to drive to work…
Clearly you don’t care enough about biking or your forum friends. If you can’t make it back from Leesburg and then the quick ride out to us, you’re not trying hard enough. OR ride to Leesburg that morning (no big deal) so you can stop by on your way home! See?! SO many options. Quit complaining and take action!

This is close enough to me that I have very little excuse not to attend. Will be my first Bike Arlington/WABA social gathering. I assume you all will be easy to spot, not like Westover is huge.
Yes, those of us that aren’t risking our lives for KOM (or figuring out how to beak TK without breaking the law) will be the big gaggle of drinkers in cycling gear outside on the patio! (Mostly… I live 3 minutes away by foot so I might dress up for you all and put on jeans!)
That said, I’m wondering if TwoWheelsDC and I should just throw a shit ton of beer in a trailer and drag it to the strava segment so HH can be drunken strava segment competition instead?

There was bling?! I didn’t get any bling!! Dammit! Still, I crushed the ride like any badass honeybadger would do. AND I got the free beer at the end, so it was worth it! Shout out to my husband for letting me draft through that wall-o-wind!

ParticipantAdmittedly, I haven’t read the article so this may be redundant, but I find it interesting that given all of the advancements in helmets for football players, courtesy of what the military is learning overseas, that some of that knowledge hasn’t trickled into some of the less-high impact sports? We know so much more about head injuries now… Of course, you won’t see me riding in my old advanced combat helmet, but perhaps some of that could help?!
