I can’t remember his name, but there is welder in Arlington who advertises regularly on Craigslist. He did some work on a steel frame for me at a reasonable price.

There was a path, or at least a way through the vines, from the foot of Union along the river, south of the old Ford plant. I rode through there frequently starting in the late 80s. The path emptied into a parking lot perpendicular to the bridge, facing the river, now closed to car traffic. Im not sure if this was MVT – it was not always a striped, signed, separate, and continuous trail. It changed and closed and reopened periodically as the area redeveloped.

You can call your bank and have them issue a chargeback, but I am not sure how this works with bankruptcy. Check your credit card online statement to see if the charge was refunded or not. You may want to search the web for “chargeback bankruptcy”. Here is Performance Bike website on the Internet Archive:

As far as I know, their remaining stores will close on Sunday March 3rd.

I doubt the OP exists, but good advice.

The blast fence was recently removed. A replacement is presumably in the works.

Used to ride the parkway south of Belle View on weekend mornings in the early 90s, until a couple of detective-looking guys in an unmarked LTD rolled up next to me, rolled down the window, and directed me to the bike path. Probably shouldn’t have slammed on my brakes without speaking and reversed direction behind them, but I like to think they enjoyed turning around and catching back up to me to make sure their concerns were being addressed.

I wouldn’t ride there now even if permitted. Too many mobile device-using mfers.

I had a similar noisy experience with new pads and rotors on used BB7s this weekend. I didn’t touch the rotor faces while installing, but I didn’t degrease them either. Probably should have. Will try that before testing again.

So why not keep using triples? Yes, they’re unfashionable, but so what?

Triples are mostly out of stock, at least at prices I want to pay. I’m still trying to use them, but am reaching down into steel chainring square taper territory lately. Wish I had picked up several Deore trekking sets when they were 50-75 bucks.

I’m guessing this sign on the TR Bridge downstream sidepath is actually a practical joke.

Platform 9 3/4. Just point it right between the begin and end signs and you’ll pop out at the base of the Washington Monument.

So many of us do this that it’s a wonder anyone uses it at the most crowded times.

The MVT really is substandard at this point, with the exception of the the sections that have recently been redone.

I can’t remember the last time new pavement was applied, unless it related to other infrastructure projects. I guess I should just still be happy the trail was striped in 1990, and frames fit wider tires again.

The boundary line follows the old stream path, before the 1970s Four Mile Run channelization project. @baiskeli 180796 wrote:

Yeah, I noticed that if you look up Arlington in Google Maps and zoom out enough to show the county’s borders, it shows the border of Arlington and Alexandria wrapped around Four Mile Run all the way up Wilson Blvd., as if Alexandria owns the stream. It’s weird.

Even if I didn’t need a new caliper at all to ride happily and safely ? I disagree.

They didn’t suggest an upgrade. They said brake wouldn’t hold the adjustment …and did not adjust to give me good braking power. They wanted more money and said i needed the new caliper.

The other shop did fix it and braking power is fine.

What’s their margin on 68 bucks? Not enough to risk alienating a customer. Trust your mechanic.

It doesn’t strike me as an agressive upsell to suggest you replace a finicky disc caliper with a new, different one. Sounds like you were getting decent advice at a fair retail price. You could do it cheaper by yourself, of course.

And the rest of the story…went to the local bike shop I trust today. The mechanic showed me how he adjusted it; he said the brakes are fine though not great.
He said I didn’t need a new caliper.
This brake system is one where only one brake pad moves. He had to adjust the brake pad in more and said I’ll have to do that as it wears. I know how to do that.
Rode home with a great rear brake.

So angry that another bike shop that folks recommend couldn’t adjust it properly and tried to seel what I didn’t need.
I guess i’ll write to or call their manager or owner.
Anyone else had this type of experience?

I’ve had Bar Mitts for 8 years. Nothing will keep your hands warmer than pogies/bar mitts IMHO. You definitely need to wear lighter gloves when using them or your hands will sweat like crazy.

4 years ago, I was looking for a cheaper pair, and bought these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0022ZJJSK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
They’re much thinner and easier to install than the Bar Mitts, but aren’t quite as warm. I actually prefer these most of the time since my older version of Bar Mitts are stiff neoprene and don’t have a lot of height and sometimes hurt my knuckles when riding too long with them. These cheap ScootR ones are more voluminous and don’t cause any discomfort.

The con of the ScootR is that they don’t have any attachment point to the end of the bar, so without modification, they can slip down and eventually leave little coverage for your hands. No biggie, what I did was get snap buttons that I attached to the ScootR hand covers, then screwed in the other half of the snap button into the bar end plug. Works DYN-O-MITE!

I stole these ideas and bought these things after reading this, and love them. The snaps keep the mitts in place, but still allow the mitts to rotate. Thanks for the tips.

There were 2 cyclists today around 7:20 AM surrounded by about 3 police cars by the airport exit ramp to GW Parkway (south of the 2 overpasses). They were both standing and neither looked seriously injured or like they were about to get arrested, but I wonder if the large quantity of glass that appeared overnight on the trail just south of there led to an accident or something…

I would have thought maybe it was a bike-on-car accident on the crosswalk, but I didn’t see any cars stopped, and as I said, no one looked hurt…I spoke to another cyclist who was biking by at the same time as me, and neither of us could figure out what had happened.

Maybe they were having a discussion regarding right of way at the crosswalk/stop sign, and the resulting cognitive dissonance required extra backup.
