I had a one guy with an unusually high power strobe on the MUP portion of my commute in for a while. I started setting my light to strobe when I saw him in the distance and would ride past with the light uncovered. Very un Dirt like but it did seem to work as ether he has stopped riding or stopped using the coastal marine grade light.
Etiquette question regarding lights or lack there of and others. I ride a section of the W&OD heading west in the am before daybreak and encounter many ninjas. Recently I have been saying “You need a light” in the same neutral voice and tone as I say “Onyourright” Is this poor form?
What got me started was a lady that frequently walks with a kid laden stroller in darkness and never has any lights or reflective gear.
While we don’t do our annual blinkie light give-aways until after the DLS shift, we’re happy to give you trail ambassadors a handful to share with the ninjas. I keep extras with me for just such occasions. Reflective leg straps, too.

Then there are the spies of Arlington.
Robert Hanssen at Long Branch Park
And more recently, the Russian spies that were found to be living at Riverhouse Apartment Complex at Pentagon City.
And Monica Lewinsky was interviewed by the FBI at the Ritz Carlton at Pentagon City.
Marv Albert was arrested in 1997 at the same Ritz Carlton for forcible sodomy and biting his mistress in the back (among other things).
Don’t forget Aldrich Ames house is in N. Arlington.
Lorena Bobbit worked at the Illusions salon in Shirlington.
And the 9-11 hijackers got their fake IDs at the FMR DMV.
Many of these sites are on my informal Notorious ARL ride. It was twice sold at nonprofit silent auctions, but never redeemed.

KeymasterSteve, Yuengling or Stella Artois. Thanks.
Now here is the next quiz: Where is the George Mason Memorial Bridge? It’s where most people think the 14th street bridge is.

KeymasterIf you are successful in getting a policy in place for removing abandoned bikes, please consider identifying a local bike nonprofit (i.e. Phoenix Bikes or Gearin’ Up Bikes) to donate them to. Henry

KeymasterDid the bike look like this?

KeymasterTania:
You might want to consider attending one of the many women-lead (ond usually women-only) rides at Phoenix Bikes. They also do mech skills training with women instructors. There’s one tomorrow night.

KeymasterMy favorite comment to the story was that European city streets were designed for bikes, where are US city streets are not.
Well, European city street weren’t either, until they were. Same goes for the US.
Which leads to the classic Yogi Berra logic loop (nobody goes there, it’s too crowded): Nobody rides the streets, too dangerous; so redesign them to make them safer; No, that would be a waste of money b/c nobody rides on them.

I’m waiting for this companion article:
This is what makes drivers speed down the road
How motorists justify their dangerous behavior. There are times when, as a motorist, I speed down the road. I’ve got momentum, I don’t feel like slowing, I’m running late.
I’m not alone. In America, about 865,000,000 drivers commuted to work each day. More than 99% of them sped on their way there…….
I believe Tom Vanderbilt literally wrote the book on that. It’s called Traffic. Excellent read:

KeymasterBut this is the cyclist I want to be. I’m just not there yet.

I suppose it’s also an indication that my flip phone and I are rapidly becoming obsolete around these parts
The SpotCycle App is up-to-date with the current location, too.
As it was explained to me when I joined the team, one of the reasons these moves are not tweeted ahead of time is that as often as not, planned moves do not happen as planned. We could say “X Station to move before the AM rush tomorrow” only to have the crew show up and be blocked by some moving crane or who knows what. Thus the SOP is to post the change as soon as we can after it’s actually happened.
We got the email at 9:08am, tweet went out at 9:14am. Spotcycle updated approx 9:35am.
