ParticipantI’m very sorry about your crash, that sucks.
Wish you all the best with the surgery and recovery.

ParticipantThe Ballston parking garage has a small parking area for bikes, on the Glebe Road entrance. It’s not in a locked cage, but pretty safe as far as I can tell. I’ve parked there for several years and haven’t had any issues (fingers crossed).

ParticipantI’m sorry to hear that — all around awful experience.

Another option is to get an uber-light bike (if yours isn’t already) to go with your new spiffy condo. Something sleek and 17 pounds is going to be much easier to lug up stairs than a 30 pound behemoth
Yet another option might be to actually get a 30 pound behemoth but get one that is suitable for 24/7 life outdoors. Think weather-proof and theft-proof. Preferably a pre-owned bike so it doesn’t look to attractive to potential thieves… I totally get that this is not for everyone, but Dutch bikes have evolved especially for these scenario’s. They are heavy but robust and (obviously) weather resistant.

To move onto quieter streets earlier in the ride, a bit of a modified box would only add little extra distance. From Quincy southbound, left on 10th St N by the library, right on Nelson, cross both Fairfax and Wilson at the light, right on 7th (or 6th or 5th) to left on Oakland. Should be minimal traffic from 10th St onward.
That would be my choice too. The Quincy crossings aren’t very pleasant for left turns. Turning left on 9th St will be easier than on Fairfax or Wilson but the smoothest left-turn would be at 10th Street.

ParticipantThank you, as always! Nice video. Hypnothizing!

ParticipantI’m leaning towards a WorkCycles kr8 as well, but it seems like the e-assist might be tricky to order straight from the Netherlands, due to the lithium batteries.
Does anyone have experience with getting an aftermarket e-assist installation for a bike like that?

ParticipantWelkom op het forum!
The infrastructure in DC is getting better and better, a dramatic improvement over how things were only 5-7 years ago. It’s not the same as back home, obviously, and you’ll have to carefully decide where you’ll live, but some bike routes are getting pretty good.

ParticipantI like that the right-turn lane on south-bound Wilson is disappearing, in front of O’Sullivan’s. It will make that corner a little easier to maneuver.
Would this design be compatible with a potential future extension of the protected bikelane on Wilson?

You know, Heineken sounds very German to me, and so does Beck’s.
Das Bier ist sehr gut! (I think I get bonus points just for saying that)!
Hmmm, for Heineken the better version is: “het bier is erg lekker”.

ParticipantVery cool! Awesome data.
I think the presentation is great, but I agree with Judd that it might have more visual impact if you move out the “hour” markers to the right or left of the bar, and so the green/red becomes contiguous.
Also, given that the screen is wider vertically and that you’re displaying a timeline, perhaps a vertical bar is worth trying out?

ParticipantI’m so happy about this! Went to check it out tonight. Bicycling on the protected part felt much more relaxed than on the previous bike lane right next to traffic.
It’s only 0.4 miles but it feels like the beginning of something beautiful!

ParticipantThank you for making that video!
