ParticipantOn Monday at the giveaway a couple people were curious when I mentioned that there are sometimes police at the intersection of doom — here’s a poorly-shot image from this morning:
See the parked police motorcycle and the policeman standing and watching the intersection. You can tell he’s there because, for once, there aren’t cars blocking the crosswalk while the ‘walk’ signal is showing.

ParticipantHa, I’m new to this forum, saw this thread yesterday for the first time, and the very next morning (today) see a very familiar-looking mustache on my commute:
Is that who I think it is?

I got a very nice Bike Arlington vest yesterday – thanks guys! One question – do they come in small sizes? I got a large one and I think I might be able to use it as a sail on windy days
Yes, we have Small, Medium, and Large! And yes, the large size is huge — I’m over 6′ tall and had to trade down for a medium…

ParticipantSad to hear — hope the cyclist is okay. That section of Glebe (as well as nearby Lee Hwy) is terrifying at rush hour.

ParticipantI used to live on the third floor of an apartment building, which involved a lot of stair climbing, but moved a few months ago and now don’t have any stairs (bike currently goes in our entryway but wife is lobbying for me to move it to the garage…). So zero.

ParticipantI’ve been using these Giro gloves and they are pretty good. Definitely no problems shifting.

They suggested the sidewalks might be a safer place to ride (I disagree).
Wow, that’s terrible

ParticipantAnyone else see the police officers monitoring the Ft Myer / Lee Hwy intersection in Rosslyn this morning? This is the second time I’ve seen them in about a month. Today they were writing a motorist a ticket. If they can manage to make drivers behave at Lynn St / Lee Hwy, I’m all for it!

ParticipantMe: taking a break from my ride home to remove my jacket at the top of the Custis corkscrew
You: the nice gentleman who as you went by, smiled and made a comment about how at least it wasn’t raining like this morning.Agreed! And you were one of the only two other people I saw going home this afternoon (west on Custis at 5pm).

ParticipantAlso saw what is probably the fewest ever other bikers this morning. I go along Custis and over Key Bridge and only saw three other cyclists (all going the opposite direction).
My “waterproof” jacket and pants were definitely not, but it was raining quite hard.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE call this in to the ACPD non emergency line. There’s a school right there (which would be helpful to point out). 703-558-2222 In fact, the more people who call it in, the more likely we’ll get some enforcement.
For what it’s worth I stayed around to talk to the police once they showed up — the officer thanked me for sticking around and asked me to email him my video (which I did).
But I agree that that intersection is not very fun.

Me: about to pass through an intersection while biking down Quincy on my way to the library
You: a driver who doesn’t believe in traffic signalsBut at least I finally caught some excitement on my helmet camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH7IhnMgAEU
