ParticipantDon’t know who I saw today on pennsylvania ave going east bound in the bikes lanes near 13 street (yesterday technically), a couple were riding together wearing red fresh bikes outfits and passed me like I was pedaling on a stationary. I was pedaling the cannondale bad boy dressed in all black…. The female had calf muscles that made me raise an eye-brow Mr.Spock style.
One day I’ll be able to nonchalantly go that fast.

Off topic, I know, but are you talking about Virginia state and/or emissions inspections? Where do you get to DROP OFF YOUR CAR to get that done?????
My car still has Maryland tags… Maryland only inspects when the car is sold/transfer ownership. Thats it… Other than emissions every 2 years(i think its 2) K, I’ll stop gloating/bragging.

ParticipantLast night I was riding home, it was my first ‘real’ ride to work and back home. I didn’t check the weather. I might as well rode in a swimming pool- no rain gear.
Stopped next to a lone cyclist on Penn ave and 7 st nw. We were the only people on the road (about 10:30pm).
I was a little excited to engage him in a pleasant exchange about the weather and said thee gayest ( and there is nothing wrong with it at all) thing when he looked over at me to acknowledge me: ‘are you as wet as I am?’
I got a weird look and something about the metro running slow and you took off while the light was still red.
Sorry, I did not mean to be weird, just excited about commuting, even in the pouring rain and thats what I was wet from- the rain!

ParticipantYou- taxi cab honking your horn at me for taking the lane north bound on 4th street between Jefferson & Madison NW.
I moved over so you could speed past me and get to the red light at 4th & pennsylvania ave to hurry up and wait. Nice going, you sat while I continued on my way.

ParticipantBuy screen-door mesh for the helmet vents or they’ll get clogged by cicadas.

ParticipantI’m not happy about these damn cicadas. This will be my first summer for riding & commuting and aside from the challenge of being a beginner I’ll have these things smacking me in the forehead/face as I ride. Cicada guts crunching all over my tires, they’ll be exploding all over my eye protection and handle bars! Acckk I can already feel the little hooks on their legs snagging my lip and making crash and do a bike-copter on the ground

ParticipantOnly good for being predictable to the driver/cyclist behind you, which is a good thing.

ParticipantLooks like a scene where a 19 year old girl would get snatched by some guy who wants it to put the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again…… Or a set extra of that M. Night Shyamalan movie… The Village?

ParticipantYou: riding your bike in the bike lane up 15th street NW
me: driving my car up 15th street NW, turning left onto U street NW.
You are lucky we had a missed ‘connection’ because I was paying attention and looking out for you as you disobeyed the don’t walk signal and rode into intersection, totally oblivious & not even looking, as I was turning left with the green turn signal. I stopped so you would not have a ‘connection’ with my car. I was tempted to lay on the horn and wave my el-numero-uno finger at you because you were clearly not paying attention, but your problem is a self correcting and there is no teacher like experience.
That is all.

ParticipantIs that wei-ting in the yellow/black on the left?

I love the stealth bike look too. And those Lefty forks.
The left fork definitely feels different & while on a test ride on the boardwalk at navy yard I rolled the front tire in the gap between the brick and sidewalk- learned its characteristics real quick.
