EgoodmanParticipant
Now we have all our members in one place, I have a few questions:
– Whose our team captain?
– Do we wan’t a name and logo? Ice Road Truckers(team 18 wheelers) was thrown out there, and another Strava club was set up for that.
– Where do folks love? We’re we grouped together, so we can ride together? I live in Arlington near Ballston. Thanks
Eric Goodman
EgoodmanParticipantI’ve joined both clubs, but somehow we have to all stick to one club. I like the Ice Road Truckers club page, because it has a logo and a cute cat with a hat in a truck.
EgoodmanParticipantDoes anyone have a contact for our team captain (Jeff G. was listed at the Happy Hour) so we can get the team set up on Strava and the Leaderboard? Thanks.
EgoodmanParticipantYesterday, at the Happy Hour, there were four of us on Team 18 that were there. We briefly discussed names. One thought was Ice Road Truckers (18 Wheelers). We have not yet heard from our team captain, Jeff G.

EgoodmanParticipantI only had one crash this 2018 Freezing Saddles season, but it was a significant one. On MLK’s Birthday (Monday Jan. 15th) I was off to meet folks in my group (Sleet 16) to get some social miles in. It was around 25 deg. F outside and dry when I approached the intersection of Wilson Blvd. and N. Jefferson Street. There was water running in the gutter pan of Wilson Blvd., and some ice build-up after that (in the intersection). Buy the time a made the decision to slow down and avoid the ice build-up, my wheels started to come out from under me, and I hit the asphalt hard. It turned out that the approach to the intersection was glazed with black ice from turning cars. I was able to unclip from the bike, and sit up, but I could not stand, so I sat in an icy puddle until I could squooch to the curb for a seat. In the mean time, several people had stopped to lend a hand, and an ambulance was called. I got an ambulance ride to Virginia Hospital Center where it was determined that I had a quadriceps contusion. Biking became very limited because I could not bend my right knee past 90 deg. In the weeks that have followed, I have received a determination that I have a quadriceps tendon partial tear, so biking has been limited to shorter slower rides. Little by little, I am working my way back to a level that I can restart my daily commute to Capitol Hill.

Flexible benefits for greener commutes

Does your employer offer you free parking? If it does, and you don’t drive to work, wouldn’t it be better if you could put that benefit to use for walking, biking, or transit? We think so!
Join us to talk about what we can do at the local level to encourage flexible commuter benefits — benefits that create less traffic and pollution, and make a happier workforce.

How we can use flexible commuter benefits to
create less traffic and pollution and happier workers

Right now, the federal tax code gives a great incentive to drive to work, allows for an equal transit benefit, but does little or nothing to reward the most sustainable commutes like walking and biking.
How can we build upon DC’s existing policies to further encourage sustainable commutes? Join us to find out.
See you there!

Dana, thanks for the report.
One of my issues with security measures, is around security barriers. In many cases there are not curb cuts on either side (before and after) the barriers, and this means riding along a sidewalk until you find a driveway apron or curb cut, or dismounting and lifting your bike over the curb.
EgoodmanParticipantThanks everyone for the advice on what I should do next. I will try to contact the welder on Craigslist and see if a repair is do-able. Attached is a photo if the head tube crack.
