Participant(Can’t read the article, sorry.)
Ofo and Mobike are probably not going to have permits continued after the current pilot, so they’d be fools to keep operations in DC going.
That leaves only the operators owned by or partnered with whatever we’re calling those apps these days: Social Bicycles (Jump and non-motorized) is owned by Uber, Lime (bikes, e-bikes, scooters) has partnered with Uber, and Motivate (traditional docked municipal partnerships like CaBi) is owned by Lyft.
Maybe my tinfoil hat has slipped a bit, but this is starting to look like an unhealthy amount of control of for-hire transportation modes in the hands of just a couple of companies for whom the actual job of transporting people is secondary.

ParticipantIn Chicago there were several pull-up stations along the lakefront and in nearby parks. Used to love to squeeze in some upper body work on my rides – on good days I wouldn’t even unclip, I’d just pull the bike up with me. Ah, youth…

That site lists a few other possibilities too, just gotta search or scan the map.

So using GC to actually track the rides (admittedly I’ve never even considered doing this)
I don’t even see that as an option in GC. I can only add manual activities.

ParticipantThe L!G!A! ride p/b District Cycleworks has been discontinued, a victim of its own success.
Here’s the message the organizers sent out at the beginning of October:
The last two editions of Lights! Gravel! Action! have brought to light some serious safety concerns about the ride, and its sustainability as we transition into shorter days and participants looking for a faster, training pace. Unfortunately, none of the leaders of L!G!A! have confidence that the ride can occur in its current state while also ensuring the safety of all riders, as well as other users of the towpath.
We will no longer be hosting Lights! Gravel! Action! and future editions are canceled. Perhaps we will be able to devise a different format or structure for the ride in the future that is sustainable and safe; if you have thoughts on this, please feel free to Reply All and let us know. We’ve enjoyed the good riding and great company (and Oreos) over the past two years, and will certainly see you all out on the road (or trail, or gravel, or dirt, or grass).

The problem is the behavior, not the tool, and we can address the behavior.
As proven by, um … help me out here – where have we heard it before?

ParticipantBetter World Club? (And while I oppose AAA’s lobbying efforts and don’t want to send them any potential members, they also do bicycle roadside assistance – but if you’re already a member you might as well use all the features.)

ParticipantPaul Components makes a couple of other options to look at.
One replaces the top cap of threadless stems and puts the light higher than normal:
https://paulcomp.com/shop/components/stem-cap-light-mount/
The other simply has a hole drilled for an M5 bolt, same as for racks and fenders, which opens up many other mounting locations front and rear.

And, these two products on Amazon are old standbys, and the related product searches show a bunch of other options:

ParticipantWe’re riding the Assateague route, on single bikes I’m pretty sure.
Latest hurricane forecast looks like it’s no threat to the ride, may not even get any rain.
Here’s a RWGPS version of the route, though I’ve never really needed guidance other than following the road markings and sticking with other riders.

ParticipantI don’t think it’s DC. The branch of DDOT that does bikes and peds is “Policy, Planning and Sustainability Administration”, headed by Sam Zimbabwe. For at least a decade the lead person for bike/ped programs has been Jim Sebastian, and though his title has shifted around a little over the years it’s never included “safety”. (As far as I know DC doesn’t have anybody specifically concerned with bike / ped safety. That’s not snark – all traffic safety is done by the “Transportation Operations Administration” branch of DDOT.)
Also, US-DOT employees have been hit and even killed by traffic on M St. before, which resulted in exactly no meaningful changes on that highway-disguised-as-street.

ParticipantStart with this link:
You can pick a different seed city / proximity and tweak the distance and elevation sliders to get a better list for your trip (I used 20-50 miles and 100-1000 feet – if you leave the minimum elevation at zero you’ll get a lot of routes that are simply missing elevation data).
Once I have a list of results, I like to order them by distance or elevation and look at the map thumbnails to see routes that have multiple copies. These are often group rides or event routes, which are more likely to be better planned.
(I paid for a “Basic” subscription to RideWithGps years ago and have never regretted it – though this is the first year I’ve really made good use of the upgrade features.)

ParticipantAh yeah, that’s the one I was thinking of. All the Ws and Ms in our trails got me loopy.
