ParticipantA fellow mustachian!
Welcome. Watch out for Dismal, he might be cheaper than even MMM.

ParticipantI appreciated that “stupid nationalist flag simulator” apparently doesn’t translate well… so they just kept it in English.

ParticipantWind gusts as strong as some of the darker days of BAFS. Stay upright out there.

Just be mindful that things *may* not work as well when you out it back together. I apply the same philosophy to taking apart the bike as I do to cleaning it: if it ain’t broke don’t fix it or leave well enough alone. (I do wipe down or brush off my bikes, but generally no washing.)
This was my guess. But its important that I hear other people who have actually experienced it say it. I’ll probably just give it a good cleaning. I do a wipe down every week or so and do a quick once over of the rims every few days right now.. stupid sand.

So this is probably going to further confuse matters, but with regards to how long a BB should last, there just isn’t an answer. Everything (EVERYTHING!!!) depends on so many variables that it’s nearly impossible to give any amount of time or mileage without getting into the weeds. Some will say 3k miles, some may say 10k. I’ve seen stock dura ace BB’s go for 30k miles, no sweat. But I’ve also seen stock SRAM BB30 bearings last only 1k miles.
The best thing to do is to replace it when it needs to be replaced. The most sure way to tell if the bearings are bad is to remove the crank arms and spin the BB spindle, feeling for any notchy-ness or grinding. if it feels smooth, then keep riding it. If it’s rough, replace it. Also, creaking from that area of the bike usually doesn’t signify a worn out or bad BB.
A complete overhaul of the bike will likely be overkill unless you completely trash the bike. It’s good to check everything on the bike, but that doesn’t mean you need to tear everything down and rebuild it just to make sure everything is ok to ride. Any reputable LBC should be able to take a look at any bike and ascertain what level of service, if any, it may need. I’d also recommend getting a second opinion from a second shop if you think it may need something like a complete overhaul.
Its 10% concern for the bike and 90% me wanting to know how to take it all apart and put it back together again for no apparent reason other than… because!

ParticipantSo… is this like the Ferrari from Ferris Bueller? Octothorpe rides the wrong way around Hains point and the miles come off or something?

ParticipantSigh… to the car who decided to sit behind me honking for about a 1/4 of a mile on Fairview Park Dr this morning. You do understand that it was 6:15am, on a six lane road, with no traffic. This means you had not one but two! lane options to pass me in. The only thing slowing you down this morning was your apparent refusal to change lanes. But then you did decide to pass me on the left, despite the fact that the ramp you wanted to be on was on my right, and the lane had started like a 1/4 mile back….
Both I and the PT Cruiser you then cutoff getting onto the ramp for 50/495 know this. Hopefully you learned this as well. Also, blinkers. I mean seriously.

ParticipantThis thread has me remembering that my original FS2015 goal was 1,000 points. I’ve already passed that. Looking at the points from last year, I thought I’d be respectable. I was wrroonnggggg… My 1,000+ points are cannon fodder. I think I recently broke into the top 80… wahoo.
Apparently, I need a longer commute.
*Edit – Bringing it full circle, its all relative – right? Be happy they are riding. Everyone has room for improvement.

ParticipantYou: The female cyclist rolling up Fairview Park around 7:15am this morning.
Me: The guy walking out of the building with the locker rooms.THANK GOD! I hadn’t seen another person on a bike in the office park since like October. You made my day, even if you didn’t see me still wearing my neon yellow jacket.

ParticipantChecking the seven day forecast, a smile crossed his face. Cautiously, he removed the Barmitts from his bike.

ParticipantI don’t think anyone is pro double parking here. But like a good Idaho stop, there can be a time and place where illegal things are done in a way that doesn’t hurt anyone too much, if at all.
Its a city/urban environment. I take double parking as something that is just going to happen. No amount of kiss and ride will ever satiate demand. When you have that many people in a small space, we inconvience each other.
The franconia/springfield metro has an incredibly long Kiss and Ride lane. Despite its length, it sometimes backs up pretty far. Even when not backed up, people with double park the “good” spots. If its raining, people will triple park the good stops and stop traffic completely. If you build it, someone will abuse it.

ParticipantI’m confused. So we’re saying there is a war on cars in Arlington and it went too far?
Circle the block, find a parking spot, or just move when you get called out for double parking. Its really not that bad is it?
