I’ll add another. Bike shorts with chamois work great, and Dirt is spot on with his dissertation. One thing he missed though that I’ve found out.
1: you don’t wear anything underneath them
and 2: wear once then washAmen, sir. I once wore a feather duster between me and my shorts. It was fun for the first 2 hours, but after that it lost its novelty.
But seriously… You are very right about both. Clean = good.

ParticipantThere are many things that make a front derailleur work properly, as people have identified.
- The height of the derailleur;
- How it is aligned in relation to the large chainring (the outer cage should be parallel to the large ring when looking down on it)
- Limit screws (both low and high)
- Cable tension
- Shifters functioning correctly.
- Chain length
- Age/amount of wear on the chainrings; and
- age/wear on cable housing.
It helps if the planets are aligned too.
The most honorable Sheldon Brown (may he rest in peace) has a good article about it (and anything else bicycle related… though his list of pick-up lines for dating while cycling is a bit dated) http://www.sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html
Hope that helps a little.

There are many, including myself that could offer evidence to the contrary. You may have seen me with your own 2 eyes, but that proves little.

Did anyone take pictures at the happy hour? You do realize that if there are no pictures, it didn’t really happen.
Tim took some. I’m sure he’ll post up.
Thanks again, y’all. You are wonderful people.

I’m on mine. I’ll be there for a bit. I have too much stuff to do tonight to stay long or drink much/anything. It’ll be good to see folks.

ParticipantWelcome! That is a tough corridor to be riding in. I don’t know the area well, but I’ve often found that Google Maps is my friend when it comes to exploring alternative routes to get the places that I need to go. I don’t mind weaving around a bit and taking a slightly longer route if it means that I can stay off super busy streets. That sometimes doesn’t work at all. Often a little thinking outside the box is a good thing though.
Good luck! Rock on!

Participant15th St, NW heading North past Pennsylvania Ave. Looking stylish too. I threw a rock at you, but it hit a lobbyist instead. Oh well.
